We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

Charlotte Straker Fete Brings Community Together 🎉

The Charlotte Straker Fete was a fantastic day of community spirit, bringing together residents, relatives, friends, volunteers, and local people for an afternoon of fun and fundraising at Charlotte Straker House. Despite a blustery breeze, the atmosphere was full of energy and smiles as visitors enjoyed everything on offer. From browsing stalls and trying their luck on the tombola, to sampling homemade cakes, playing games, and catching up with friends old and new, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The event was officially opened by Cllr Nick Oliver - Corbridge & Riding Mill alongside Berenice Groves, Chair of Trustees for The Charlotte Straker Project, who warmly welcomed everyone and thanked the community for their continued support. Berenice shared how special it was to see so many people come together, highlighting the importance of events like the fete in bringing the community together and supporting life at the home.

A huge thank you goes to all our incredible volunteers, whose time, energy, and enthusiasm made the day possible. From setting up and running stalls to baking delicious treats, their support was invaluable. We are also hugely grateful to everyone who donated prizes, cakes, and items for the popular stalls, as well as to Ian Wylie for capturing the day through his wonderful photographs.

Together, the fete raised over £1,500 for the Development Fund, helping us continue to enhance life for residents both now and in the future.

Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, volunteered, and contributed. It truly was a memorable day, and we’re already looking forward to the next one 💙

Preparing for a busy summer in our gardens! 🌸

With two wonderful outdoor events coming up (our Charlotte Straker Fete on Saturday 13th June and Corbridge Open Gardens on Sunday 21st June) our gardens are looking their very best thanks to the hard work of some dedicated volunteers.

Trustee Jane, alongside Hazel and Valerie from Stocksfield Plants & Gardens Society, recently spent a sunny morning tending to our flower beds and helping prepare the grounds for the visitors we look forward to welcoming over the coming weeks. ☀️

We would like to extend a huge thank you to them, and to all the volunteers who help keep our gardens looking so beautiful throughout the year. Their time, care and enthusiasm make such a difference and help create a lovely environment for residents, families and visitors to enjoy.

We hope you'll pop by at one of our upcoming events and take a moment to admire their wonderful work! 💙

A Wonderful Volunteers' Week Celebration 💙

This week, we were delighted to welcome our volunteers to Charlotte Straker House for a special afternoon of coffee, cake and appreciation as part of Volunteers' Week.
