The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bedded care home in Corbridge. We offer high quality residential and nursing care for those over 65.

We also offer a free of charge, respite care room for short term respite breaks funded by charitable donations. The Charlotte Straker Project is a 32 bed charitable care home and offers residential, nursing and respite care to the elderly and frail. As a not for profit care home any surplus profit is reinvested back into the organisation for the benefit of our residents. We concentrate on supporti

ng our residents and fundraising for necessary equipment, activities and resources. We also support some of our local authority residents by funding the fee shortfall - the difference between the amount the local authority pays for care and the actual cost of care. We also offer 8 supported living bungalows in our grounds. Our dedicated, well trained team ensure that individuals living in this well-equipped and comfortable accommodation receive attention all day, every day which enhances quality of life for the elderly frail in our care. Charlotte Straker House provides a “home for life” and we care for residents from the moment they arrive and for the rest of their lives, giving security to both residents and their families.

Good luck to our Great North Run runners! 🏃‍♀️

The big day is nearly here, and we couldn’t be prouder of our fantastic runners for taking on this incredible challenge! They’ve put in so much hard work with their training and fundraising, and now it’s almost time to take on those 13.1 miles.

Maureen, Amy, Abbie, Sarah, Jim and Rob are all raising money for The Charlotte Straker Project, helping us continue our work supporting older adults in our community. Every mile they run and every pound they raise will make a real difference to the people we support.

Whether they’re chasing a personal best, taking on their first Great North Run, or simply looking forward to crossing that finish line, we’ll be cheering them on every step of the way!

Topic of the Week 📜🚂

This week, as part of our regular Topic of the Week series, our lovely volunteer Sue brought in some fascinating historical artefacts belonging to her 3x great-grandfather, including a will dating back to the 1800s, a beautiful crystal w**e glass and a historical book of British railway maps.

Residents enjoyed hearing about the history behind these treasured items and learning more about life in years gone by. Isobel and her son-in-law particularly enjoyed the talk and discovering the stories behind Sue’s family heirlooms.

Thank you to Sue for sharing these wonderful pieces of history with us and bringing the past to life for our residents!

Sashiko Quilt Winner Announced 🧵

After months of hard work, the beautiful Sashiko quilt, lovingly made and donated by the Corbridge Sewing Bee, was finally raffled at Charlotte Straker last Friday.

Residents, families and members of the Corbridge Sewing Bee gathered to admire the quilt, alongside Rev. Linda E Hunter from St Andrew’s Church, Corbridge. Rosie, a member of the Sewing Bee and one of the quilt makers, shared a special talk about how it was created. Angela, also a member of the Sewing Bee, kindly handmade Sashiko-inspired coasters for each of our residents.

Hazel, one of our residents and a keen sewer herself, had the honour of drawing the winning ticket. Congratulations to Alison Scott from Corbridge, our lucky winner! 🎉

The raffle raised an incredible £1,145.27 for The Charlotte Straker Project and St Andrew’s Church, Corbridge.

A huge thank you to the Corbridge Sewing Bee for their continued support over the past 10 years, raising over £10,000 for local charities, and to Northumberland Libraries for displaying this beautiful quilt in Hexham Library. We’re looking forward to seeing what the Corbridge Sewing Bee creates next! 💙

Celebrating Dolly Parton!

Residents recently had a fun afternoon remembering the life and music of Dolly Parton, following the sad news of her passing last week.

There were plenty of cowboy hats and glasses to wear, as well as a Dolly Parton mask and wig, which some of our residents tried on - and even a few members of staff joined in the fun! 🤠👓

Our volunteer, Deborah, had prepared a Dolly Parton Quiz, putting everyone’s knowledge to the test. Deborah also sang along to a few of Dolly’s much-loved songs with the help of Karen and Jen, bringing lots of fun and energy into the home.

Thank you to our volunteers for helping to make the afternoon so special. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Dolly’s incredible music and the joy she has brought to so many people over the years. 🎶

A Lovely Outing to Tea and Tipple ☕

Residents recently enjoyed a trip out to one of their favourite local coffee shops, Tea and Tipple. Armed with raincoats and umbrellas, everyone set off into the village, where they were warmly welcomed by the café staff and spoilt for choice with a delicious selection of cakes and scones.

Margaret particularly enjoyed looking around Corbridge village and seeing the shops along the way, while George kept everyone entertained with his jokes for the café staff!

A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers for helping make these trips possible, and to Tea and Tipple for being so welcoming and accommodating. We’ll be back again soon 💙.

As part of our night care team, you’ll provide person-centred care throughout the night, helping our residents feel safe, comfortable and supported. Previous care experience is desirable but not essential - full training will be provided.

On a warm day, our residents recently enjoyed a refreshing Mocktail Afternoon.

There was a variety of fruity mocktails to try, including a strawberry daiquiri, mojito, blueberry mocktail and orange and grape mocktail. Residents also enjoyed some colourful fruit skewers made with fresh strawberry, banana, melon, mango and grape.

Valerie was full of praise for the refreshments, saying, “It was delicious!”

A big thank you to our volunteer Sue, who came along to help and enjoyed the occasion with everyone. 🍓

Armchair Travel: A Belgian Adventure ✈️

Our volunteer David continued his popular Armchair Travel series, this time taking our residents on a fascinating journey through Belgium!

Residents enjoyed learning about famous cities including Bruges and Brussels, hearing stories and funny memories from David’s own travels, and sharing their own experiences. Margaret enjoyed reminiscing about places she used to visit, while Margaret S impressed everyone by remembering the exact date of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815!

There was also a quiz to test everyone’s knowledge, followed by a lovely surprise - chocolates for everyone to enjoy! 🍫

A huge thank you to David for another wonderful afternoon of travel, stories and fun.

An Afternoon of Art with Miles 🎨
Our newest volunteer, Miles, recently gave a brilliant talk on the life and works of Vincent van Gogh.

Residents enjoyed a carefully selected slideshow of Van Gogh’s most famous paintings, while Miles shared fascinating details about the colours, backgrounds, and history behind each piece. It was lovely to see everyone getting involved and sharing their own memories of art. Anne spoke fondly about her husband, who was also a painter, and how nice it was to talk about art again. Christine commented on how each painting seemed simple at first but revealed something new the longer you looked. Margaret particularly enjoyed seeing familiar paintings from her visit to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.

Miles thoroughly enjoyed delivering the talk and is already looking forward to his next one, which will focus on Monet. We hope this will be the start of a popular series of art talks. A huge thank you to Miles for sharing his time and enthusiasm with our residents! 💙
