Sometimes people ask me if I can crack their backs, and proper positional release is something I'm keen to provide for those willing.

However, the sound effects are more down to your ability to be cracked, than my ability to crack you ⛓️‍💥

Usually a zany chiropractor will zone in one those particular characters who happen to sound like a wooden pallet hit by a truck as soon as they lay hands on them, then stick a tiny lav mic to their wrist to get the grossest possible demo vid.

It's feels awesome, but ultimately just papers over the cracks. Air popping between the joints doesn't really do much to help soft tissue damage or ongoing tension, apart from in the same way any nice sudden feeling would. But it doesn't mean we can't ease off a few aches and pains in this way at home 🧘‍♀️

TLDR stretching and is great, cracking feels nice but unnecessary, and spinal alignment is stupid ☕💆‍♀️

I had a client come in this morning for an Indian head massage, normally one of the 'fluffier' vibe treatments, so I didn't really have my clinical hat on.

I went in for slow breathing, nice music, and generally slow, made up scalp and nect niceties.

I love doing head massage but they make me a bit more nervous to do than other treatments, because they're a lot more opinion based than just 'fix this hip'

So when I asked how she was feeling after it was all over I got the biggest ego boost of the year. The way she was elated about not believing how well her headache had been wiped out, neck and shoulders felt free-er, and immediately wanted to rebook.

She needed a fix, but neither of us were looking at it that way. Turned out the fluff ended up being the best clinical cure she'd ever experienced,

And selfishly, it reminded me of the first days when people seemed shocked at awed by their results instead of expecting it.

If you're unsure whether this treatment or that treatment will help your issue, in this client's words 'it can't hurt, and turns out way better than expected!'

Drop me a message if you'd like to see how you can be helped, or go ahead and book on the Booksy link in my bio 💆‍♀️☕

Don't stretch a muscle that needs releasing if you want it to actually get better.

Stretching is the default response to almost every tight muscle.
Tight hamstrings? Stretch them.
Tight hip flexors? Stretch them.
Tight neck? Roll it around and hope for the best.

The problem is that stretching a muscle that has a trigger point in it is a bit like pulling both ends of a knot and wondering why it is not coming undone.

Here is what is actually going on in a tight muscle.

When a muscle develops a trigger point, a small section of it contracts and stays contracted.
That contracted section is already under tension.
Stretching the muscle pulls on the fibres either side of it, puts more load through tissue that is already overloaded, and often makes the whole thing angrier.

Which is why a lot of people stretch religiously and never actually get looser.
The stretch is not reaching the problem.
It is just working around it.

What actually helps is releasing the trigger point first.
Targeted pressure on the contracted section.
Let the muscle actually let go.
Then stretch, if you need to at all.

This is the difference between maintenance and treatment.
Between managing a problem and resolving it.

A lot of people around Corby and Kettering have been stretching the same muscle for years.
Not because they are doing it wrong.
Because nobody told them what was actually going on in there.

Time for another treatment deep dive,

Let's check out the lower body treatment!

You'll see on the menu 2 services like this, the only difference is the vibe you'd like to book in for.

- Lower body treatment is a more clinical/sports massage treatment, scrapers may be used and we're out to achieve a goal of imptyour plantar fasciitis, calf, knee or hip pain.

- Leg and foot massage may be many of the same techniques, but the purpose is to chill out, and feel better holistically after a hard week.

Book in through the link in bio, or message me for a chat to see if this could help you move a bit better this summer 💆‍♀️☕🧖‍♀️🔥

After a weekend away doing speeches, briefs and written assessments, I'm reminded that nothing ruins my ability to do day to day stuff than sprained hands and wrists,

Take it easy this bank holiday and if you're still at work, take it easier.

Happy Monday!
