💙 FLU VACCINATIONS 2026 – BOOKINGS OPEN SOON 💙

Our main flu vaccination campaign will run from 1st October at both Green Lane Medical Centre and Harnall Lane Medical Centre.

We have a selection of early morning, lunchtime and afternoon appointments available, including a Saturday clinic at Green Lane on 3rd October.

All eligible patients will receive a self-booking link through the NHS App (or by text message/email) VERY SOON! Please use this link to book wherever possible and make sure you select:

✅ The correct site
✅ The correct appointment slot for your age group (UNDER 65 years or OVER 65 years)

Alternatively, you can book by visiting the surgery after 10am or calling us after 11am, Monday to Friday.

Our vaccine supplies are limited, and we expect to use our available stock by the end of 9 October, so please book promptly. We may offer a small number of mop-up clinics from the week commencing 12 October, depending on the vaccine stock remaining.

📱 Helping children stay safe online

The online world can offer children lots of opportunities to learn, connect and have fun, but it is important that they know how to use it safely.

Coventry Safeguarding Children Partnership has created some useful resources to help parents and carers navigate online safety. The guides include advice about introducing a child to their first digital device, talking openly about their online life and supporting them to have safe and positive experiences online.

📚 OUR BOOK SWAP LIBRARIES ARE NOW OPEN! 📚

We’re really pleased to let you know that our Book Swap Libraries are now up and running at both Green Lane Medical Centre and Harnall Lane Medical Centre! 💙

The idea is simple – take a book, leave a book and share the joy of reading! 📖

💙 Reading is good for you!

Reading isn’t just a great way to pass the time – it can be good for our health and wellbeing too. Taking some time out with a book can help us relax, switch off from everyday stresses, keep our minds active and even help us wind down before bed.

🏡 Sharing within our community

We also wanted our Book Swap to be something that brings a little more community spirit into our surgeries. Books are made to be shared, and we love the idea of a book being enjoyed by one patient before being passed on for somebody else to discover.

It’s also a simple way of reusing and sharing what we already have. Rather than books sitting unread on a shelf at home, they can be passed around our local community and enjoyed again and again. ❤️

📚 Take a book – choose something that catches your eye and take it home to enjoy.
📚 Bring a book – have books at home you’ve finished with? Bring them along for someone else.
📚 Swap a book – return the one you’ve read or replace it with another.
📚 No need to register – it’s completely free and there’s no formal borrowing system!

We’d really love to see the shelves grow and change with the help of our patients, so if you’re having a clear-out at home, donations of clean books in good condition are very welcome (2-3 books maximum from each person).

Next time you’re visiting either surgery, have a browse, take a book or bring one along – you might just find your next favourite read! 📖✨

🚧 Roadworks Outside Green Lane Medical Centre – Please Allow Extra Time 🚧

We would like to make patients aware that Coventry City Council will be carrying out carriageway surface dressing on Green Lane between St Martins Road and Kenpas Highway.

📅 Work starts: Tuesday 4th August 2026
⏰ Working hours: 9:30am – 3:30pm (for approximately 3 working days)

During this time:

🚧 There will be road closures and diversions in place.
🚗 Access to the surgery may be delayed.
⏰ Please allow extra time to travel to your appointment.
🚶‍♂️ Pedestrian access will remain available.

If you are attending an appointment during these dates, please plan your journey in advance. If you think you may be significantly delayed, please contact the surgery as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while these essential roadworks are carried out.

📢 Help us reduce missed appointments 📢

Over just 3 months, 598 appointments at Sky Blue Medical Group were missed without being cancelled.

That meant:
🩺 158 hours of clinician time lost
📅 Almost 20 working days of appointments that other patients could have used
💷 An estimated £23,920 cost to the NHS

Every appointment matters.

If you no longer need your appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible.

In times of hot weather, it is important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

Heat exhaustion does not usually need emergency medical help if you can cool down within 30 minutes.

If it turns into heatstroke, it needs to be treated as an emergency, call 999.

🦠 New NHS MenB Vaccination Programme for Year 13 Students 💉

All current Year 13s or anyone either starting university as an undergrad or moving into further education halls for the first time in autumn 2026, aged under 25.

From 20 July 2026, the NHS is offering a one-off MenB (Meningococcal B) vaccination programme to help protect young people against meningitis and septicaemia.

💉 Where will the vaccine be given?
The vaccine will be provided through participating community pharmacies and is not being delivered by GP surgeries.

📱 How do I book?
Eligible young people will be contacted directly by the NHS through the NHS App, text message, email or letter with details of how to book an appointment.

⚠️ Please do not contact the surgery to arrange this vaccination, as appointments cannot be booked through the practice.

MenB can cause serious illnesses such as meningitis and septicaemia. The NHS is encouraging all eligible young people to come forward for vaccination when invited.

For the latest information, keep an eye on your NHS App and NHS communications.

🆕 A free 2-dose MenB vaccine will be available for a limited time from end of July. Who can get it?

- All current Year 13s

We'll reopen as normal at 8:00am on Thursday, 11th June.

We’re excited to be creating a Sky Blue Book Swap Library in our surgery waiting area – a space where patients can take a book, leave a book, and discover the joy of reading.

Reading isn’t just enjoyable; it’s good for your health too! Studies have shown that reading can help reduce stress, improve mental wellbeing, boost memory and concentration, and provide a positive escape from everyday worries. Whether it’s a gripping novel, a biography, or a children’s story, books have the power to support both mind and wellbeing.

Before we can get started, we’re looking for one important thing…

📖 Does anyone have a spare bookcase or bookshelf they no longer need?

If you have one gathering dust at home and would be happy to donate it to the surgery, we’d be incredibly grateful. Your donation would help us create a welcoming community space where patients can share books, discover new authors, and enjoy the many benefits that reading brings.
