🌙 A moment to pause and reflect

As we reflect on the end of August, for me I was reminded of 1999's eclipse which was just before I became pregnant with Adam. And on the 12th August we watched the eclipse together with him towering over me!
We won't see the next one so how lovely to have witnessed such a phenomenal event together.

I came across this BBC News article about the recent solar eclipse, which was described as a “surreal” experience as millions of people across the UK and Europe watched the sky change.

As we reflect on August, it reminded us all of how certain moments in life make us pause — to look around us, appreciate the world and, perhaps, remember those who are no longer here to share these moments with us.

At A J Lloyd Funeral Directors we know that reflection and remembrance can take many forms. Sometimes it is found in the quietest of moments, in memories shared, or simply in taking a little time to think of someone special.

Millions of people drawn together across the world, many inevitably with their loved ones...a shared memory that will make up part of the fabric of our lives 🌙

We also can't look back at August without paying tribute to the late Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean 19/01/1946 - 25/08/2026.

So this one's for you Dolly with love and gratitude.....

A life well lived ...

A life well lived is a precious gift - of hope and strength and grace,
For someone who has made our world - a brighter, better place.
It's filled with moments, sweet and sad - with smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared - and laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy - of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory - our grateful hearts will treasure.

Yours,

Karen x

Where’s the time going?...

Everyone says as you get older that time goes quicker…but end of July already!
We can’t complain we’ve not had summer weather.

I just wanted to share a poem today in memory of all those we have cared for this month, from the young to the very old.
These words are for you and for those who love you, to hold on to….to those taken too soon to those who leave a legacy of many decades.

A life well lived is a precious gift - Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world - A brighter, better place
It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad - With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared - And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy - Of joy and pride and pleasure,
A living, lasting memory - Our grateful hearts we’ll treasure

With love,

Yours.

Shared with the kind permission of the family and service venue.

At A J Lloyd Funeral Directors , it was a privilege to support this wonderful family in giving their beloved wife and mum the send-off she truly deserved.

She never liked the idea of a conventional funeral—she loved a celebration, laughter, and bringing people together. When her family told us they had booked The House and Orangery in Leamington Spa for the "after party," we asked, "Why not hold the service there too?"

The team at The House and Orangery embraced the idea wholeheartedly, helping to create a truly personal and memorable farewell. Our sincere thanks go to Sarah and all of her staff for their care, flexibility, and support throughout the day.

The venue was beautifully filled with photographs, treasured memories, favourite drinks, and thoughtful personal touches. Free from the usual time constraints of a traditional service, family and friends were able to share stories, celebrate her life in their own way, play the music she loved, raise a glass, and honour her exactly as she would have wanted.

As we left, there were tears — but alongside the sadness was a real sense of joy and love. It was clear that her family had given her the perfect "Last Hurrah."

📸 Please take a moment to look through the photos on this post. They beautifully capture the love, personality, and care that went into creating such a meaningful farewell, and show how a funeral can be as unique as the life it celebrates.

Every life is unique, and every farewell can be too. If a traditional funeral doesn't feel right, we're here to help create a service that truly reflects the person you love.

💛 Thank you again to the family for allowing us to share this special farewell, and to House and Orangery for helping make it possible 💛

..... Looking back on June I just had to share this photo my son, Adam took of this duckling 🥰

If this doesn't sum up early summer I don't know what does 🐥 ☀️

My poem choice was so easy when I got caught in one of those 'April showers' we had before the heatwave...the storm always passes no matter what form it takes.

When it rains, look for rainbows.
When it's dark, look for stars.
There is always light even after the difficult days.

Here's to the long summer days.

Yours Karen 😎 xx.....

🌈 Time for me to go now, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, way up in the sky.
In the morning sunrise when all the world is new,
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.
Time for me to leave you, I won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, high up in the sky.
In the evening sunset, when all the world is through,
Just look for me and love me, and I'll be close to you.
It won't be forever, the day will come and then
My loving arms will hold you, when we meet again.
Time for us to part now, we won't say goodbye;
Look for me in rainbows, shining in the sky.
Every waking moment, and all your whole life through
Just look for me and love me, as you know I loved you.
Just wish me to be near you,
And I'll be there with you 🌈
