“Staff are my priority… they should not have to suffer any form of aggression.”

At CWPT, we’re committed to and supporting our staff to challenge abusive, threatening, or uncivil behaviour whenever it occurs.

In a recent interview, we caught up with Tracey Bennet, our new Local Security Manager, to find out more about her mission to support staff when they suffer violence and aggression from patients and the public.

"She's come a long, long way."

After spending more than 9 months in our Stanley and Pembleton ward, for older adults with acute mental health problems and dementia, Alison's journey didn't end when she returned home.

Alison’s husband, Dave, shares how our inpatient care, community mental health support and joined-up working with local services helped Allison in her recovery and provided vital support for him as her carer.

Supporting recovery is about helping people and families rebuild their lives. Their story is a testament to the impact of compassionate, person-centred care and effective partnership working 💙

Hot weather and medication ☀️

Taking medication for a mental health condition? Some medicines can affect how your body regulates temperature, increasing the risk of dehydration or overheating in hot weather.

Stay hydrated
Keep cool where possible
Continue taking your medication as prescribed

Medications that may increase the risk include:
• Antipsychotics
• Lithium
• Some antidepressants
• Certain antihistamines
• Anticholinergic medicines

If you take lithium, it’s especially important to drink plenty of fluids and stay well hydrated.

If you're concerned about how your medication may affect you during hot weather, contact your clinician or healthcare professional for advice and support. Do not stop taking prescribed medication without speaking to them first.
