A red heat-health alert is in place across the Midlands. This means extreme heat could affect everyone and may impact transport, food, water and energy.

To ensure the wellbeing and safety of all staff and service users, FWT - a centre for women will be making amendments to our centre opening hours this week, and ensuring remote working for any colleagues at risk. Some courses and workshops are subject to cancellation as needed.

Government advice is:

FWT are delighted to share the news that our West Midlands Combined Authority funded project has been awarded continuity funding for a further twelve months, and will continue up to 31st July 2027.

We continue to be one of only two organisations in the city to have secured this funding, and we work with regional partners on the Digital Roadmap and Skills Development agenda.

Through this funding we will continue to deliver employability support including Accredited and Non-Accredited training. We help women to develop essential to progress forward. Please click on the link to see our weekly timetable which includes some of support we are offering

Before the whistle blows, know where support is.

Coventry Haven Women’s Aid provides specialist domestic abuse support for women and children across Coventry, including refuge accommodation, helpline support, outreach, advocacy, children and family support, home safety support, group work and practical help.

If you are frightened at home, walking on eggshells, being controlled, threatened, monitored, isolated or hurt, support is available.

The World Cup can bring people together, but for some families, major football tournaments can also mean increased tension, fear and abuse at home.

Football is not the cause.
Alcohol is not the cause.
Abuse is a choice.

Stress, alcohol, gambling, entitlement, jealousy or anger can be used as excuses by people already using abusive behaviour, but none of them justify abuse.

This World Cup, the message across Coventry is clear:
Enjoy the match, but there is no excuse for abuse.

Coventry Haven Women’s Aid is working with Coventry City Council, Respect and Relationships Coventry & Warwickshire to share clear information about support available locally.

Sky News spent a week in recently to look at the support for women during pregnancy including Maternity Services at UHCW NHS Trust UHCW University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire and barriers & risk that women face.

SKY visited us at FWT - a centre for women and spoke to minority ethnic women attending our specialist project Parentcraft workshops, highlighting how commissioned projects offer community solutions to accessing health services and care.

Women told the reporter of the benefits and confidence they felt after engagement with MAMTA Peers and ongoing support during antenatal and postnatal stages

NCWGB has campaigned about women’s health issues for many years. This is a key turning point in women’s health: the UK government recently published the renewed women’s health strategy, women are actively campaigning for an end to inequalities in care, and changes in systems and processes are being discussed.

NCWGB has a newly established study group for inequalities in women’s health which is highlighting vital changes and actions.

Women's Aid’s latest Annual Audit shows what specialist services already know: too many women and children subjected to domestic abuse are still unable to access the support they need, when they need it.

Behind every referral is a woman or child who deserves safety, belief and specialist support.

At Coventry Haven Women’s Aid, we continue to provide safe accommodation, helpline support, advocacy, children’s work, community support and practical help at the point of crisis.

But specialist services cannot do this work alone.

Sustainable funding, strong partnerships and community support are essential if women and children are to access safety and rebuild their lives.

Come and join the FWT teams at Belgrade Theatre, Coventry for the Family Fun Day on Saturday 20th June, from 11:00am to 3:00pm. The event is part of celebrating courage, community, and togetherness with activities for children and families.

FWT will be taking part with other partners. No need to book, just come along and enjoy.

We are also holding a group session for at our women only centre for women accessing the project. We will share information to raise awareness about Refugee Week.
