🏡 Move-On Accommodation Now Available 🏡

The Beacon is pleased to announce that we have secured two fully furnished self-contained one-bedroom move-on flats, with a further two flats expected later this year.

These properties have been developed for individuals who have made significant progress in their recovery journey and are ready to take the next step towards independent living.

One of the biggest challenges facing recovery and supported housing services is finding suitable accommodation for people who have done exceptionally well, no longer require shared accommodation, but are not yet ready for complete independence. At the same time, access to general needs housing remains increasingly difficult, often leaving people stuck between services despite being ready to move forward.

Our move-on accommodation helps bridge that gap.

The flats provide an opportunity for residents to experience living independently, managing their own home and responsibilities, whilst continuing to receive recovery-focused support and remaining connected to a positive recovery community.

We are looking for referrals for individuals who:

✅ Have demonstrated stability in their recovery

✅ Are actively engaged in recovery and positive community activities

✅ Have developed good daily living skills

✅ Are ready to move on from shared accommodation

✅ Are working towards employment, volunteering, education or training

✅ Are preparing for long-term tenancy sustainment and general needs housing

Recovery is about far more than abstinence. It is about rebuilding confidence, restoring relationships, developing independence and creating a meaningful future.

For many residents, this stage represents the final step before fully independent living and an opportunity to move towards employment, self-sufficiency and making a positive contribution to their community.

📩 Referrals are now being accepted. Please contact The Beacon to discuss potential referrals.

A huge thank you to the Dynamo Project for featuring The Beacon and helping raise awareness of the support available across Coventry.
Recovery isn't something any organisation achieves alone. By working together, we can create stronger pathways into treatment, recovery housing, community support and long-term recovery.

🎨✏️ Creative skills in action at The Beacon today! 🎨✏️

Our residents took part in a sketching session this afternoon, with everyone receiving their own sketch pad and pencils before getting stuck into some step-by-step drawing exercises.

Using the Simply Draw app linked to the TV, we followed guided tutorials that showed us how to create outlines, build shapes, add shading, and gradually develop finer details. Today's masterpieces included a fish and a panda, with plenty more challenging creations to come as our skills improve.

The session lasted around an hour and 45 minutes, with a short break in the middle and plenty of laughter throughout. The app's enthusiastic American voiceover became a source of amusement for everyone, adding to the fun and relaxed atmosphere!

What stood out most was how much everybody enjoyed the process. Residents found the activity calming, therapeutic, and surprisingly rewarding. It provided a great opportunity to focus, learn a new skill, express creativity, and spend quality time together.

We're pleased to say that sketching and drawing will now become a regular part of our programme. Recovery isn't just about stopping harmful behaviours; it's also about discovering new interests, building confidence, developing patience, and finding healthy ways to relax and enjoy life.

A fantastic afternoon all round! 🎨🐼🐟

📚 Investing in Better Support at The Beacon 📚

At The Beacon, we believe that the quality of support we provide is directly linked to our willingness to keep learning, growing, and developing as a team.

Over recent months, our staff have completed a range of specialist training courses designed to strengthen our knowledge, skills, and understanding of the people we support. These have included:

✅ Trauma-Informed Practice
✅ Compassionate Inquiry
✅ Motivational Interviewing
✅ Conflict Resolution
✅ Professional Boundaries

These courses have provided valuable insight into the impact of trauma, adverse life experiences, and the complex challenges often faced by individuals in recovery.

A particular focus has been our commitment to embedding a trauma-informed approach throughout our service. This means looking beyond behaviours and asking "What has happened to this person?" rather than "What's wrong with this person?" By doing so, we can create a safer, more understanding, and more empowering environment for recovery.

Our training in Compassionate Inquiry has further enhanced our ability to listen with empathy, curiosity, and compassion, helping us better understand the underlying experiences that can drive addiction, mental health difficulties, and harmful coping strategies.

Together with Motivational Interviewing, Conflict Resolution, and Professional Boundaries training, these developments are helping us build stronger therapeutic relationships and deliver more effective, person-centred support.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Public Health Team at Coventry City Council for funding these training opportunities. Their support has enabled us to invest in our staff, strengthen our service delivery, and continue improving outcomes for the people who trust us with their recovery journey.

Recovery is about growth, and that applies to us as an organisation too. We remain committed to learning, improving, and providing the highest standard of support possible.

🔥What a day this was 🔥

We kicked things off properly with a full English at Rossi’s Café — setting us up for a full day of team building, laughs, and pushing comfort zones.

Then it was over to Warwick Adventure Sports… and they absolutely delivered. From the moment we arrived, the team couldn’t do enough for us — welcoming, accommodating, and really supportive of what we do as a charitable organisation .

The activities were top class:
🔫 Pistol shooting
🎯 Rifle shooting
🏹 Archery

But the highlight… without a doubt… was “reverse steer snooker” 🤣

A golf buggy, a blindfolded driver, and a twist — steering left sends you right, and steering right sends you left. No using the words “left” or “right” either… so we had to come up with our own code words on the fly. Absolute chaos in the best way possible.

Safe to say, it’s been a long time since we’ve laughed like. I think a bit of wee may have came out. 🤣

Days like this are more than just activities — they build trust, connection, and remind everyone that life in recovery can be full of fun, energy, and genuine joy and not a drink or drug in site. High on life!

We’ll definitely be back. Thank you Warwick Adventure Sports 🙌

The weather’s been turning lately… and we’ve been making the most of it 🌿☀️

We’re now getting out more regularly and heading further afield — what’s becoming a weekly part of the programme is these longer walks, and they’re quickly becoming a highlight for everyone involved.

This time, we headed into the Cotswolds — and it didn’t disappoint. Beautiful scenery, nature in full spring bloom, and the weather fully on our side.

From the top of Cleeve Hill, we even had incredible views overlooking Cheltenham Racecourse — one of those moments where you just stop and take it all in.

Finished off with a packed lunch along the way, plenty of laughs, and a proper sense of connection as a group.

Days like this are what recovery is about — fresh air, clear heads, and enjoying life again without substances.

Another powerful reminder of what recovery is all about 🙌

This week, we came together as a community to celebrate a huge milestone — 6 months clean for one of our residents 💪

Moments like this matter. Not just for the individual, but for everyone in the room. It shows what’s possible with the right support, structure, and commitment to change.

We marked the occasion properly with a meal out at Pamir — one of our go-to spots. Incredible Afghan barbecue, great atmosphere, and always a warm welcome. If you’ve never been, it’s definitely worth a visit 🔥

This is what we’re building at The Beacon — not just recovery, but connection, celebration, and a life worth staying clean for.

The journey continues 👣

🚨 Big News from The Beacon 🚨

We’re proud to announce that The Beacon has expanded further — with 6 new bed spaces, all en-suite, now available 🙌

This means we can support even more people who are ready to break free from addiction and step into long-term recovery.

We’ve been working closely with our new landlord, who has gone above and beyond to bring the property up to the exact standard we needed — and we couldn’t be happier with the result. The space is clean, safe, and built to support those in recovery.

We’ve already begun welcoming new residents in… and this is just the beginning.

The Beacon is growing.
The Beacon is reaching more people.
The Beacon is shining brighter than ever.

We’re proud to be strengthening our place within the recovery community in Coventry — and we’re not slowing down anytime soon.

If you or someone you know needs support, now is the time to reach out.

We received something truly special this week…

A resident’s mum gifted us a handmade piece of the Serenity Prayer — created entirely from hundreds of tiny coloured pin heads.
The time, patience, and care that must have gone into this is hard to put into words. It’s not just a piece of art… it’s a reflection of love, hope, and belief in recovery.
For those in early recovery, the Serenity Prayer isn’t just words — it’s a daily guide: • Accept what we can’t control
• Find the courage to change what we can
• Learn the difference between the two
To have that message captured in something so detailed and personal means a lot to us and to the house.
We’re incredibly grateful. Acts like this remind us that recovery doesn’t just impact the individual — it reaches families, rebuilds relationships, and restores connection.
Thank you for your kindness and thoughtfulness. It won’t be forgotten 🙏

A gas safety check is required at one of our properties in Coventry. Can anyone recommend someone who can be available to complete by tomorrow?
Thank you in advance 😊🙏🏻
