Can anyone help and support this amazing project remain buoyant until they can secure more grant funding. They have always been very supportive and accommodating to us and others in the recovery community. Our residents have really benefited from the fully funded sessions they have provided in the past.

We need immediate support to cover essential running costs so we can continue our work while securing long-term grants and our future.

✏️ Another brilliant step-by-step drawing session!🐊

This week, the lads took part in another guided drawing class, creating what appears to be a rather impressive crocodile—or possibly an alligator!

Everyone really enjoyed the session, and as you can see from their finished drawings, they all did a fantastic job. The step-by-step approach shows that, with clear guidance, patience and encouragement, anyone can develop their creative abilities.

Activities like this are about much more than drawing. They help residents recognise what they are capable of, build confidence in their abilities and develop a greater sense of self-worth.

Well done, everyone—some brilliant artwork! 👏

☀️ Making the most of the sunshine! 🏄‍♂️

Last week, during all the lovely hot weather, we purchased three paddleboards and took most of the lads out for a brilliant day on the River Avon.

Before reaching the river, we enjoyed a long, shaded walk through the beautiful grounds of Coombe Abbey. It was the perfect way to start the day before getting out on the water and trying the new paddleboards.

There were plenty of laughs, a few wobbles and lots of fun! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and it was fantastic to see the lads supporting one another, trying something new and making positive memories together.

An amazing day from start to finish! ☀️🌳🏄‍♂️

A huge thank you to Coventry City Council for kindly donating 10 refurbished Samsung mobile phones, along with SIM cards and data support, for our residents.

This will make a real difference to those who are digitally excluded, helping them stay connected, access services, manage appointments, and rebuild independence.

We’re very grateful for the continued support in helping our residents move forward in recovery and in life.

☀️🌊Sunny Skeg Vegas, Sober Smiles, Sunscreen & Seaside Memories ☀️🌊

To round off last week’s red-hot weather, the residents headed off to sunny Skegness for a proper day at the seaside.

No groups, no meetings, no sitting indoors — just a well-earned day out, making the most of the sunshine and enjoying something a bit different together.

There was swimming in the sea, sand everywhere, fairground rides, ice creams, doughnuts, fish and chips by the beach, and plenty of laughs along the way.

It was one of those simple but brilliant days — sun cream flying around, lads dipping in and out of the water, enjoying the rides, grabbing food, and just switching off for a few hours.

For many people, days like this can be a reminder that life can still be fun, full and memorable without alcohol or drugs being part of it.

At The Beacon, we believe recovery should include real-life experiences, new memories, friendship, laughter, and the chance to enjoy the normal things that many people may have missed out on for a long time.

A great way to end the week, and a lovely reminder that sometimes the best therapy is fresh air, sea water, good food and good company.

☀️Recovery, Rifles & Rubber Dinghies ☀️

Last week, while the weather was extremely hot, we took some of our residents out again as part of our ongoing focus on helping people experience early recovery in a positive, enjoyable and meaningful way — without the need for drink or drugs.

A few of the residents had shown an interest in trying air rifle shooting, so we took them along to Barby Shooting for a two-hour session. It was a great opportunity for them to try something different in a safe and structured environment, and they really seemed to enjoy it.

A big thank you to Barby Shooting for welcoming us and kindly offering us a reduced rate.

Afterwards, we headed over to Pailton Lake to cool off and enjoy the rest of the afternoon. We had recently purchased a three-man rubber dinghy, and one of the lads also brought along a blow-up kayak, so everyone had the chance to relax, have a laugh, jump in the water, sunbathe and make the most of the sunshine.

We were lucky enough to have the whole lake to ourselves for the afternoon, which made it even more special. It was just a lovely day of fun, connection, fresh air and making memories in recovery.

This is exactly what we want to keep showing our residents — that recovery is not just about stopping drinking and drugs. It is about rebuilding life, finding new interests, creating positive experiences, and learning how to enjoy yourself again.

Everyone is doing well, enjoying the sunshine, and continuing to move forward in their recovery.

More days out are already being planned, so we just wanted to share a little update on what we’ve been up to here at The Beacon.
