Honestly such an honour and super fun to work with coach .

We did a resting metabolic rate test which looks at how many calories you need to function, HRV and metabolism speed. This takes 20min of sitting still and relaxed and that’s it!

We then went onto the VO2 max test. Speed is pitched personal to the athlete. So the first 10min is a very slow/ steady zone 2 style to get acclimated to the treadmill.

Following this we go straight into the ramp test and every minute the speed increases by 0.5kmph. So it’s pretty gradual and isnt hard until right until the end.

Once done, as you can see no one is falling off a treadmill, it’s all self dictated and you will know when you’re done. That feeling of knowing usually coincides with maximum heart rate and VO2.

We then go through the results, training zones, how the breath and cardiovascular system perform as the test gets harder. We also do a little gait analysis to see if there’s any form that can be improved. And all the results are sent over there and then.

We also had a play on the VALD force decks on another occasion and looked at balance (eyes open and shut). A counter movement jump and a squat assessment. To give a nice all rounder evaluation of her balance, strength, power and asymmetry.

As always it’s super fun and informative.

Look forward to a retest in a few months time.

If you want to come get tested and see where you are fitness and strength wise. Book in now via the website or drop us a dm for more information.

See if you can get a tennis ball to sit in the hole of a bumper plate whilst hanging.

It’s pretty hard but we love a challenge.

And finally something Danielle is better at than Josh 😂

Why Cyclists Put Their Arms in Water to Cool Down?

This clever cooling technique used by cyclists, where they submerge their arms in water to lower body temperature. The science behind it involves blood vessels near the skin surface in wrists, hands, and feet, which help cool blood as it returns to the heart.

Have a go and let me know how you get on 🥶

Cat has been training with me a little while and we are currently in a strength building block as she has a big race end of the year.

In order to make sure we are making actual progress we decided to do a testing day using the Force Decks and Frame.

Being a runner, we kept it lower limb. Balance, jumping and then hips, quads and hamstrings as a group.

After 6-8 weeks we will retest and see where she is at.

This eliminates the guess work and allows us to see objective numerical data that we can see in real time. Cat also has access to all her data on an app.

Fancy knowing your numbers? Come try a testing day at the unit. Depending on how much data you need, you’ll need a minimum of 1 hour.

We are also able to bring the platforms to your facility and do group testing with your clients. Just drop us a dm.

Don’t guess, test.

Highlights from this years

Overall a good day out. Some interesting talks and seeing products aimed at helping you cheat aging ;-)

I expect, as humans live longer through medical advances, quality of older life will become more a priority and alot of these things will become mainstream.

Big take away, was learning about NAD+, which is how to help the cells in your body not age and repair quickly. Or how I like to think of ‘the fountain of youth’. Curious to see that becoming a bigger topic.

Also seeing how cortisol and inflammation is hot topic for longevity.

Not sure what to get the guy who has it all?

Why not get a voucher, they can use towards all our services (except memberships). Maybe a massage or if they are sporty a personal training session or if you want them to run lots a VO2 max test 😉.

All vouchers have a 6month expiry from day of purchase and can either be online or just ask for a physical one.

Went to to the expo.

This one tends to be more aimed at gym owners and gym setting rather than the therapies.

As part of my role being a sports therapist/ performance scientist and running a company, I like to go to a lot of expos each year, so I can see what is likely to be trendy in years to come. I compare myself to what others are doing and attend small lectures on a variety of topics.

Going to places like this and meeting with suppliers and also I get to see my industry friends from around the country.

Have another next week at To***co Dock which I may have put on a pedestal in my head 🙈 called the Longevity show. It should have a lot of science stuff that I already use in the unit so will be good to connect to others in a similar position.

I talk about what to expect during a VO2 max test using the portable kit. We cover the entire process: starting with a consent form and goal-setting, beginning with 10 minutes of acclimatization at around a zone two pace, then gradually increasing speed by 0.5 km/h every minute until you can’t continue. I film your gait from multiple angles to provide feedback on efficiency, and afterward we analyze your results including VO2 levels, training zones, VT1 and VT2 thresholds, breathing frequency, and tidal volume. It’s a comprehensive, gold-standard assessment of cardiovascular fitness that’s fun and leaves you feeling energized.

Stop guessing and start testing!
