💙 International Nurses Day
Today we celebrate International Nurses Day, a day dedicated to recognising the incredible work of nurses across the world, and especially our NHS nurses who care for patients every day in hospitals, GP surgeries, community settings, and beyond.

Nurses are at the heart of the NHS, providing clinical expertise, compassionate care, and vital support to patients of all ages. They play a key role in promoting health, preventing illness, supporting recovery, and improving wellbeing.

Did you know?
• There are over 700,000 registered nurses and midwives in the UK, with thousands working in primary care and community health.
• NHS nurses deliver care that ranges from routine check-ups and vaccinations to specialist care for complex conditions, supporting patients and families every step of the way.
• Their work is essential to patient safety, health outcomes, and keeping the NHS running every day.
On this day, we want to thank all NHS nurses for their dedication, resilience, and compassion, especially after the challenges of recent years. Your work saves lives and strengthens communities across the country.

💡 How you can show appreciation:
• Say thank you to a nurse in your life or community.
• Support local NHS initiatives and campaigns.
• Share posts celebrating nurses on social media to raise awareness of their vital work.

Let’s take a moment today to honour and thank our NHS nurses for everything they do. 💙

💚 Cervical Screening Saves Lives! 💡
If you have a cervix, regular cervical screening is one of the most important ways to protect your health: Cervical screening is generally offered every 5 years for women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 64.
Cervical screening checks for early changes in the cervix, including high-risk HPV (Human Papillomavirus), which can lead to cervical cancer.

Early detection means problems can be treated before they become serious.

🩺 Why attend your screening?
• Detect HPV that may cause cervical cancer.
• Identify early changes that can be treated quickly.
• Quick, simple, and can make a huge difference to your long-term health.

If you’ve been invited, don’t delay, attending is a proactive step for your wellbeing.

🎀 Breast Cancer - Early Detection Saves Lives 🎀

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK:
➡️ 1 in 7 women will be diagnosed in their lifetime.
➡️ Most cases are in women over 50, but younger women can also be affected.

Breast screening can save lives, it detects cancer before it can be seen or felt, when it’s easier to treat.

💬 Have you received a breast screening invitation?
✔️ Don’t delay.
✔️ Don’t ignore it.
✔️ Attend your appointment.

Early detection gives you the best chance of successful treatment. Share this message, it could save a life. 💗

Meningitis B

There are 2 vaccinations available currently -Meningitis ACWY given at 14-15 years old in high school (usually Year 9) and Meningitis B in under 2 year olds, unless children have special conditions such as no spleen they cannot have over the age of 2 years under CURRENT guidance.

If you are concerned your child has not had Meningitis B vaccine and under the age 2 or other routine childhood vaccines such as Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) and Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR) then you can ring reception to make enquiries.

If your child is OVER 2 years of age under CURRENT guidance we CANNOT vaccinate with Meningitis B vaccine as we have strict guidance to follow. IF there is local risk the UKHSA will give us new guidance based on the risk and instruct us who requires vaccination. We will respond if UKHSA advises us of any updates and act accordingly.

You can check for updates on the UKHSA website as they are updating their blog regularly with up to date information

There is currently an outbreak of meningococcal disease (MenB) in Kent. This blog post includes information on MenB and this outbreak, what to do if you are affected and where you can get antibiotics and who is being offered a vaccine.
