I love what I do and how I help others feel better but….
As a therapist your body is part of your toolkit 💚

When we’re concentrating on giving our client the best possible treatment, it’s surprisingly easy to forget about the person actually giving it… us!

I certainly didn’t think enough about this when I first started.

Over time I’ve learnt to move around the couch rather than overstretch, use my body weight instead of relying on the strength in my hands and thumbs, and adjust my couch height depending on the treatment I’m giving.

And if something feels uncomfortable, I change my position. You don’t get extra points for making life difficult for yourself! 😂

As therapists, our bodies are one of the most important tools we have. If we want to enjoy a long career doing what we love, we need to look after them too.

So next time you’re treating, check in with yourself:

Are your shoulders relaxed?
Are you reaching when you could move?
Are you using your whole body, or asking your hands to do all the work?

Small changes can make a huge difference over a day of treatments.

Your treatment shouldn’t come at the expense of your own body.

Why I became a Tutor

🌿 There’s something very special about finding the vocation in life which you really love and you find it gives you such joy and also allows you to develop in yourself.

When I started working as a massage therapist 7 years ago, I had never imagined the thrill I’d get from seeing the difference a treatment can give to my clients.
From clients not wanting to get off the couch because they are just too relaxed (one even fell back to sleep when I left the room) to seeing someone walking away with a positively improved feelings in their body.

As I get older, I need to make sure I look after myself more If I want to continue doing the work I love.

✨ This sparked the urge to to pass my skill on to others encourage confidence in future therapists and make sure they are the best they can be. Hopefully they will experience the same wonderful feeling when a client walks away feeling better because of something they have done.

I always love learning new skills so training to teach others seemed like a natural way to go. Still being able to treat my clients whilst building up my own academy.

Best of both worlds for me 😊

🫣 As an Educator and Tutor this is a brave statement

My business is training future therapists so why am I saying this?

The truth is that when you have spent 7 years working as a therapist, you know how tempting it is to just keep learning and add one new treatment after the other.

🤷‍♀️ But does that make us good therapists? Not always….
sometimes we pay lots of money training but leave the course feeling unsure and not confident in carrying the treatment out to the high standard we all strive for.

Reaching the point where you can carry out a treatment with confidence takes time…..and with time we may change and adapt the treatment to make it ‘our own’.

💚 So, give yourself time to build your skills….I am sure plenty of friends and family ….or even current clients are happy to volunteer as a model for your to really perfect your skills and confidence to make your next treatment the most amazing thing they have ever experienced.

Keep being that unique amazing therapist everyone wants to spend time with 🙏

When we learn together, we lift each other.

One of my favourite parts of teaching isn’t just sharing a new technique, it’s watching people grow in confidence together.

Learning in a small group creates a relaxed and supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to ask questions, practise, make mistakes and celebrate those little breakthrough moments.

The feedback and encouragement from fellow students is often just as valuable as the teaching itself.

You quickly realise you’re not alone, and that’s where confidence really starts to grow.

I keep my workshops small because it means everyone receives plenty of one-to-one guidance, individual feedback and time to develop at their own pace.

If you’ve been thinking about learning EMMETT Technique, I’d love to welcome you to one of my workshops.

Have you ever been on a course where the people you learnt alongside became just as important as the course itself?

✨ One of the things I love most about EMMETT Technique is that it challenges a common belief—that deeper pressure produces better results.

🕺In reality, gentle, precise intent applications can often help the body relax, release tension and move more freely.

😊It's a reminder that effective therapy isn't always about working harder. Sometimes it's about understanding the body, listening to what it's telling us and using the right approach at the right time.

Have you ever experienced a treatment where a gentle touch made a surprising difference?

😮‍💨 As a newly qualified therapist, It is always daunting starting up.

I remember really sticking strictly to the routine I had learnt at first. But I soon realised that by listening to the client, letting them get to know me and I them before getting on the couch allowed them to feel more comfortable and relaxed and in return made me feel more confident in my work and adjusting it accordingly.

Passion, knowledge and intention gets you a long way in the therapy industry and reaching a stage of feeling confident to change your routine to make it unique to the individual client to, for example, just work in one area which is where the tension and restriction sits.

By listening to the client and their body, they will remember you as that person who made them feel relaxed and they will come away feeling just great both physically and mentally.

Have you had the same experience of that eureka moment of thinking “I’ve got this, I am unique and I am making a great difference for this client” ?

Can we just take a moment to appreciate the design of my new business postcards designed by my clever daughter Jess

Jess has just finished 3rd year of her Graphic Design degree from Edinburgh College of Art and I can honestly say she makes me so proud and I love following her journey and see her grow as a person and professionally over time.

As a young student trying to build a portfolio, these jobs are so important to Jess, so if you have a design or branding job which needs a helping hand, please do ping her a message.

Ps The card stand was beautifully created by my husband who always seems to have that piece of wood and the bit of metal to hand (you never know when you might need it 💪)

Happy Weekend to you all 😎

⭐️ As therapists, we often explain to clients why regular massage matters.
🚙 Most people wouldn’t wait for their car to break down before booking a service, yet they often wait until they’re in pain before seeking treatment.
🔧 The same principle applies to us as practitioners. If we want to achieve better results, build confidence and offer the best possible care, we need to invest in our own professional development.
⭐️ Every new skill, technique and treatment approach becomes another tool in your therapist toolbox.
🧑‍🎓 Whether you’re newly qualified or have years of experience, continued learning helps you support your clients more effectively and keeps your passion for therapy alive.
