✨Anything can happen in my healing space ✨

Every Reiki session is different, because every person is different and Reiki always meets you exactly where you are.

Sometimes what is needed is simple but powerful. Maybe its deep rest, peace, and the chance to switch off from the noise of the outside world. Reiki can bring you into such a state of calm that the body and mind finally feel safe enough to soften, release, and restore.

Other times, the energy stirs something deeper. I’ve witnessed the most extraordinary things – like a butterfly appearing in the room, carrying a message of transformation that held huge significance for the client. These moments may seem unusual, even magical, yet they come as a reminder that healing works on many levels: physical, emotional, spiritual, and beyond.

There are also times when Reiki unlocks emotions that have been held tightly within the body. Tears may flow, and far from being a sign of weakness, they are a beautiful release. They show that the body is ready to let go of what no longer serves, creating space for lightness, clarity, and renewal.

Healing is never a one-size-fits-all process. For some it feels like coming home to themselves, for others it’s the relief of finally exhaling after years of holding on. It may be subtle, or it may be profound but it is always exactly what you need in that moment.

When you step into my healing space, know that you are held with love, compassion and a safe space for whatever needs to unfold.

I read something today that really made me think about burnout… how long recovery can actually take and I think so much depends on how long you’ve been running on empty in the first place.

If someone has spent years being the person who keeps going regardless, caring for other people, carrying responsibilities, pushing through tiredness, putting their own needs at the bottom of the list, then recovery isn’t simply about getting a few good nights’ sleep.

It’s about teaching your body that it doesn’t have to be on alert all the time anymore. You can have a period where you feel much better and then suddenly have a week where you’re exhausted again. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve gone backwards. Recovery definitely isn’t linear.

It’s one of the reasons that I am only working very much part time at the moment. I would never work with a client or hold a group if my energy didn’t allow me to be fully present. Having experienced burnout myself some time ago, I’m much more aware now of the signs that I’m asking too much of myself.

It’s also not always about the healing work either though my daily Reiki practice is important. For me it’s about taking time to do the things I love. Long walks, plenty time amongst the trees, coffee ( obviously!) and family time.

This week I’ve spent time with friends, time in Edinburgh eating THE most delicious gelato, and time just for me. They actually made the ice cream look like a rose!

I think it’s important to ask yourself “what would it look like if I actually allowed myself to recover rather than continually asking myself to get back to normal?”

Sometimes the best days are the simplest. A few hours in the woods with two amazing friends was exactly what I needed.

The wind blowing, leaves falling and the beat of the drums…. and we literally found the heart of the forest!

My kind of day with my kind of people. 🌿

Something special happens when women gather in circle. There’s a bond created, a feeling of safety and sisterhood.

Last night Aphra Wilson and I held an event called The Unmasked Woman. It was really powerful. I think there were lots of lightbulb moments and realisations about the stories we carry, the many labels we have, all the roles we play and the masks we wear.

We let all of that go and discovered the woman underneath. The empowered woman who can be whoever the f*$k she wants to be! No more playing small, hiding away but finding joy, being playful, adventurous and in control of her future.

I’ve woken feeling a shift and I think many of the women that came last night will too.

I’ll leave you with this song…. It feels appropriate. 💪🏻 🙌🏻

I’m just home from my monthly Deep Rest for Tired Women class. I love seeing how people arrive compared to how they leave.

They come in chatty and fidgety, but within a really short time I can see them starting to soften and relax. Then, when I bring everyone back at the end, they just look so chilled.

Yoga Nidra, often translated as “yogic sleep”, is a guided meditation practice that takes you into a deeply restful state between wakefulness and sleep. It can feel incredibly restorative, even when you haven’t actually slept.

Combined with a short sound bath, it can support:

• Deep relaxation
• Nervous system regulation
• Improved sleep
• Release of physical and emotional tension
• Deep restoration and replenishment

My next Deep Rest for Tired Women is Friday 18th September.

If you’re feeling tired, overwhelmed, or simply in need of some proper time to switch off, I’d love to see you there.

Sometimes the most powerful part of healing is what happens afterwards.

A client messaged me recently after our third session together. She told me that her sleep had been strange, with really vivid, bizarre dreams. She described it as feeling like her brain was “unravelling and decompressing”.

She said something else that really stayed with me. “I knew people said Reiki is powerful, but I suppose it is hard to explain until you experience things.”

That’s the thing about this work.

I can tell you what Reiki feels like. I can tell you what other people have experienced. I can explain how a session works.

None of that can really prepare you for your own experience.

Sometimes it’s a feeling. Sometimes it’s an emotion you didn’t realise you were carrying. Sometimes it’s a realisation that suddenly makes sense of something you’ve been struggling with. Sometimes it’s simply lying still for long enough to hear what has been going on inside you.

I never want to tell someone what they should experience during or after a session. Your experience is yours.

My role is to hold the space, offer the healing, listen and allow you the time and safety to explore whatever comes up for you.

Three sessions in, this client is noticing things in herself that perhaps weren’t so clear before.

That’s the part of this work I love. Watching someone begin to understand themselves a little differently.

Having those moments where something clicks. Where something they’ve been carrying starts to make sense. Where they begin to trust themselves and what they already know deep down.

Sometimes you really do have to experience it to understand it.

There is nothing quite like grief. It hurts your heart and can leave you with an emptiness that is difficult to explain, let alone fill.

When something terrible happens, it’s completely understandable that we might try to do anything we can to avoid feeling it. We keep busy, distract ourselves, try to stay strong, tell ourselves we’re fine when actually we’re anything but.

But grief needs to be felt. It needs space.

Grief is a completely natural response to loss, but that doesn’t make it any easier to experience. The sadness, anger, guilt, exhaustion and all the other emotions that can come with it can feel overwhelming at times.

We often associate grief with the death of someone we love, but there are so many other forms of loss that can bring grief too. A relationship ending, losing a job, a miscarriage, illness, a friendship, a dream that didn’t happen or a version of your life that you thought you were going to have.

I think this is one of the reasons the work I offer can be such a beautiful support when we’re grieving.

Reiki doesn’t take the sadness away. It shouldn’t. Grief is part of loving and losing, and there is no magic switch that makes that pain disappear. What I can offer is a safe space to stop for a while.

When we’re grieving, our whole body can feel it. We can feel tense, exhausted, restless, unable to sleep or simply completely drained. Giving yourself some time to lie down, breathe, be listened to and receive some gentle support can make the whole experience feel a little more manageable.

In Chinese Medicine, grief is associated with the lungs and large intestine and the Metal element. I’ve always found this interesting because grief can quite literally take our breath away. That heaviness in the chest. The deep sighs. The feeling that you just can’t quite take a full breath.

Perhaps we need to give ourselves permission to breathe, to feel and to allow what is there to move through us rather than trying so hard to hold it all together.

Grief doesn’t have a timeline. It comes in waves. Some days you might feel okay and then something completely unexpected can bring it all rushing back.

So if you’re moving through grief of any kind, be gentle with yourself. There is no right way to do it and there is no set amount of time it should take.

Let the waves come. Let them move through you. Then rest when you need to and if you feel you need somewhere to simply be held and supported through it, that’s something I can offer too.
