Today we marked our first year trading as Stephen Tester Independent Funeral Directors. And when we look back, what a 12 months it’s been. I’m absolutely delighted that the town and surrounding villages have embraced us, as a new business with a longstanding heritage in the area, and taken us to their hearts. We’ve been privileged to serve many families I’ve known for decades as well as new ones.

I couldn’t be happier today, reflecting on the many community events we’ve been involved with, from the Rotherfield Bonfire Society community lunch to the Mayfield Festival, from the Crowborough Rotary Club to Crowborough Athletic Football Club and Crowborough Rugby Club. We’ve met so many wonderful people through the year!

But there’s so much more to come. We’ve got some exciting plans, which I’ll announce very soon. So please watch this space. In the meantime, if we can help in any way, don’t hesitate to call: 01892 577166

Well-known and respected locally, Stephen Tester is a name synonymous with ‘trust’, ‘respect’ and ‘care’.

Stephen brought with him more than 30 years of experience in the local funeral industry to set up Stephen Tester Funeral Directors last year in Park Rd, Crowborough.

Since then, this new phase in Stephen’s long, caring career has gone from strength to strength, thanks to the support of local people.

Stephen said: “I’m honoured and grateful for the trust that families in Crowborough and the surrounding area place in me, to handle the funeral arrangements for their loved ones. I’ve committed many years to ensuring local people are well cared for and their support has meant the world to me.”

If you would like to discuss a funeral, please call Stephen and his trusted team on 01892 577166.

The skies may have been cloudy but Team Tester had a terrific day at the Rotary Club of Crowborough Charity Golf Day today.

It’s always a pleasure to be part of a community event. And when you combine that with good friends and colleagues, and we’re at Crowborough Beacon Golf Club — it’s even better!

I was joined by Michael Valentine, Roy Bastin and John Coda, and we’re delighted to have contributed to the overall amount raised for . A very worthwhile local cause.

Some requests, like wearing bright colours, are very personal and perfectly reflect the qualities of the much-loved individual. They give us a way to say a meaningful “goodbye” that also comforts us and creates a special memory.

Our mission, at Stephen Tester Independent Funeral Directors, is to ensure families are better informed before making decisions about arrangements. They need to know their loved one is treated with care, dignity, and support and that there’s an opportunity for a personalised farewell.

We can guide families through all options, aiming to encourage more informed choices, and early conversations about everyone’s expectations. We see our role as offering compassionate, professional local care and understand the important part this plays in the grieving process.

If you or your family has any questions about the range of funeral options that are open to you, don’t hesitate to ring us on 01892 577166. The choice is very much yours.

I met up with my good friends Mayfield Festival organisers, Jonnie Jones and Mary Driscoll at The Middle House before enjoying the delights of the evening.

Stephen Tester Funeral Directors were sponsor of Sunday's performances at The Mayfield Festival — A Sunday Kind of Jazz and Faronel. Two contrasting but equally entertaining sets of musical artistes. What an enjoyable and impressive experience!

I hope those of you who went along had a great time. Music is so important for our wellbeing and I’m proud to be associated with our community’s support of the arts.

Dying Matters Week (4-10 May) encourages more open conversations around death, grief and planning ahead. Ahead of this important campaign, the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) has revealed the results of its survey surrounding the importance of understanding direct cremations and how they fit into the choice of arrangements offered to families.

A quarter of people surveyed told SAIF that attending a funeral plays a critical psychological role in beginning the grieving process.

The research also reveals that while online direct cremations have grown in popularity as a lower-cost option, they may leave some bereaved families and friends with a lingering sense that something was missing.

Direct cremations are where the person who has died is cremated without any funeral service or mourners in attendance and the ashes are returned to the family. Most online providers do not allow viewing of the deceased, nor are they prepared/dressed prior to cremation. However, findings suggest that, while often chosen with good intentions, such as reducing financial burden, they may not always offer the sense of closure many people need. A little over one in five of respondents regret not discussing their loved one’s funeral wishes while they were alive, highlighting the importance of having these conversations early.

During Dying Matters Week, people are being encouraged to talk about their wishes and consider not just the financial aspects of end-of-life planning, but the emotional impact on those left behind.

Stephen Tester says: “If you or your loved ones need advice or information about having these sensitive conversations, please do get in touch and we’re always happy to help.”

A great afternoon spent at the Lord's Taverners St George's Day Spring Lunch at the The Spa Hotel in Tunbridge Wells, raising vital funds to support disadvantaged and disabled young people through cricket.

It was a pleasure to share the table with Chris Rapley (formerly of Millennia Print), Tom McGloin (Nevill Crest & Gun), Katie Gillam (Cooper Burnett), Katrina Walker (Pure Moments in Time), Alex and Florence Jones (Alex Jones Funeral Directors), Jo Parker Tester and Karen Barker (Abbey Funeral Services), and Dean Yorath (Azets).

A thoroughly enjoyable event in excellent company, all for a fantastic cause.

I had the pleasure of attending the Rotary Club of Crowborough’s open morning with my guests, Jill from Jill at Vibrant Communications and Martin from the The Good Company People. We learned a lot about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, his inspirations and impact on the literary world from the main speaker! Rotary is an excellent organisation that does a lot of good in the world. If you’d like come along, drop me a line.
