Have been Assisting and Teaching with the Aberdeen School of Shiatsu since qualifying as a Shiatsu Practitioner 1996 and have run short introduction Shiatsu classes and support groups for Shiatsu students in Fife, Dundee & Perth from ’96, intermittently. I am also a facilitator of Qi-Gong a Mindful Movement Practice and run regular classes in the local community and within the NHS Fife. I was invited to assist and facilitated the initial training group based on the Jon Kabat Zinn 8 week Mindfulness Programme 2007. I then continued to support the work undertaken by the new facilitators of Mindfulness Practice within the NHS working with Compassionate Practice in the work place. I have also completed the Official Teacher Training Course within the NHS in Mindfulness Practice 2010 MBSR (Mindful Based Stress Reduction) and assisted with the initial Mindfulness Course for Students at St Andrews University 2009. Further work has been research into Self Care of the Therapist; Invited by NHS Fife Psychologist team to outline the importance of Self-Care Practice on an energetic level. Self-Care is a fundamental must of any therapist working in the capacity of compassion and empathy. This research highlighted the importance to body-mind work – connection to nature and the environment – nutrition - self challenge and a support network. All encompassing, these findings made it clear what Shiatsu can offers to anyone choosing to train in the practice and why finding a Shiatsu Therapist to receive bodywork can be absolutely vital to anyone’s health and well-being, WHY? Because SHIATSU encompasses ALL. This therapy is based on Mindful Practice to self, its main aim is to help facilitate the recipient to become more body aware and to learn how to be more present and in the moment through touch, encouraging greater health of BODY & MIND. All the reasons I love the work I do as a Shiatsu Practitioner and Teacher. A further practice of training I have undertaken for my own Continued Professional Development has been in a form of dance and movement known as Biodanza (Dance of Life). This form of dance and movement engages deeply with “Being in the Moment” but this of course is different to Shiatsu and stillness. Biodanza is working with the mode of music and through movement reconnect with your body rhythm, and reconnect with fellow human beings, one to one, in small and in larger groups. This therapeutic work is highly respected and recognised internationally in the professional world of psychology, movement bodywork integrating & enveloping body, mind and spirit in its practice. I have and do introduce selected aspects of this work in my workshops which covers, bodywork, touch and interconnectedness of self and with other fellow human beings. A great need and a must to be encourage in today’s isolating society. All threads of my work have been to satisfy my enormous curiosity of the mind, body and spirit in all its capacity and functions and how it works not only on a physical level (the body) but it’s integration on an emotional, psychological and spiritual level and understanding the biology and physiology and pathology it encapsulates in relation to Shiatsu, This is all an extension of the work I do in my practice and hope as a Teacher within the Aberdeen School of Shiatsu I can share my findings for the greater good. I also have a background in Martial Arts (Tae Kwon Do) Hold a Black Belt and a title of world champion of Women’s Hand Destruction – stated as an example in the use and of projection of Ki. Have trained in Baby Shiatsu Massage with Karin Kalbantner and Shonishin Acupressure for Babies with Dr Thomas Wernicke’s and work in my practice with Pregnancy & Babies on a one to one.
