‼️Please Remember to Cancel Unwanted Appointments‼️

We’ve seen a rise in Did Not Attend (DNA) appointments recently.

We completely understand that it’s the summer holidays and many people may be away, but please remember to cancel any appointments you no longer need so we can offer them to someone else.

In just the last week, 57 patients did not attend their appointments, resulting in 570 minutes of valuable clinical time being lost — time that could have been used to see other patients who are in need of an appointment.

If you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible. A quick cancellation can make a big difference and allows us to offer the appointment to someone else.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us make the best use of our appointments. 💙

‼️Wildfire & Respiratory Health‼️

Due to the particularly bad wildfires and associated smoke, patients with respiratory conditions may wish to change their appointment to a telephone consultation.

If you would like to do this, please contact the practice and we will arrange this for you where appropriate.

Please also follow the Public Health Wales guidance below to help protect your health.

⚠️ As wildfires continue to affect parts of Wales, here are some simple reminders to help keep you and those around you safe.

Smoke from wildfires can irritate your eyes, nose and throat, and may cause coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath.

✅ Stay indoors and keep windows closed
✅ If you are travelling, keep your vehicle windows closed, and switch aircon to recirculation mode
✅ Keep inhalers and medication with you
☎️ If you have symptoms and they do not improve when inside, away from smoke or ash, ask for advice from your GP or NHS 111.

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after using the toilet or changing nappies, and before preparing or eating food.

These simple steps can help protect you, your family and your community.

Hot weather can sometimes lead to dehydration-related headaches. Drinking plenty of water and keeping cool can often help relieve symptoms.

If your symptoms continue or you need advice on how to manage them, your local pharmacist can help. They may recommend suitable treatments, which can be purchased over-the-counter. They can also signpost you to the most appropriate healthcare service for further support, if needed.

Our May Practice Activity infographic is below 📊

Since introducing our new online triage form, we've seen a reduction in the number of calls coming into the practice. This means our phone lines are becoming more available for patients who need them, while allowing us to assess requests and direct patients to the most appropriate care as quickly as possible.

Thank you to everyone who has been using the new system and for your continued patience and support as we continue to improve access to our services.

A reminder about our online forms:

• Same-day request forms are available on our website Monday to Friday, 8:00am–10:30am.
• Routine appointment forms are available Monday to Friday, 8:00am–12:30pm.

You can access the forms by visiting www.nantdowlaishealthcentre.com

As always, if you are unable to complete an online form yourself, our reception team will be happy to help.😃

Let’s talk about mental health and wellbeing.

Take just 5 minutes today to check in with someone. Ask how they’re really doing and take the time to listen. It may be a small part of your day, but it could mean everything to theirs.

Not sure how to start the conversation? Visit https://orlo.uk/VHFXX for tips and support.

Remember, Samaritans are here 24/7 for anyone who needs someone to listen. Call 116 123.
