From complex knee reconstruction to a 5K run 🏃♂️
4½ months after a robotic-assisted total knee replacement — and Jason has just completed his first official 5K in over five years.
Jason underwent a robotic-assisted total knee replacement in March 2026. This was a particularly complex case, with previous metalwork from an ACL reconstruction creating significant challenges for planning and implant positioning.
The Mako robotic system allowed us to carefully plan the operation in three dimensions, taking the existing fixation into account and optimising the position and balance of the knee replacement.
The result has been fantastic.
By May, Jason was comfortably walking several miles a day with his dog. He then managed the walking demands of Las Vegas, followed by around 10 miles a day at the British Grand Prix in July.
And now… he’s running again. 🙌
“Just over 30 minutes, which I’m happy with for a first proper run in 5 years! Good job my son was there to drag me around. Knee all good 👍”
His next goal? Building his fitness back up and completing a triathlon. 🏊♂️🚴♂️🏃♂️
For me, this is exactly what modern knee replacement surgery should be about — not simply relieving pain, but helping patients get back to the activities that matter to them.
A complex case, meticulous planning, robotic-assisted surgery and, most importantly, a motivated patient who has worked incredibly hard on his recovery.
