✨ LIP FILLER MIGRATION — SOMETIMES THE BEST OPTION IS TO RESET ✨

Lip filler migration can happen for a number of reasons. It may be related to previous placement, the amount of filler used, repeated treatments over time, the type of product, or simply your individual anatomy and how your lips respond to filler.

Migration can sometimes appear as fullness or a ridge above the lip border, loss of definition, unevenness or a generally “overfilled” appearance.

And sometimes, adding more filler isn’t the answer.

If I feel your existing filler is affecting the result we’re trying to achieve, I may recommend dissolving with hyaluronidase and allowing the area to settle before we start again.

💗 What should you expect?

Immediately after dissolving, swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising can occur. The lips may temporarily look or feel different while everything settles, so don’t panic if they don’t look how you expected straight away.

Once the area has settled, we can reassess your natural lip shape and decide when it is appropriate to refill.

Starting again gives us the opportunity to work from a cleaner base and create a more balanced, defined and natural-looking result.

Such a beautiful result from a small, carefully placed amount of anti-wrinkle toxin. 🩷

A gummy smile can occur when the muscles that elevate the upper lip are particularly active, causing the lip to lift higher when smiling and exposing more of the gum.

💉 So how does the treatment work?
Toxin is precisely placed to temporarily reduce the strength of the muscles responsible for excessive upper-lip elevation. The lip can still move naturally when smiling, but it doesn’t lift quite as high — meaning less gum show and a more balanced smile.

And look at the difference it has made to her upper lip! 👄

In the before photo, the upper lip is pulled upwards and becomes much thinner when she smiles. After treatment, because the lip isn’t being pulled upwards as strongly, more of the pink lip remains visible, giving the appearance of a noticeably fuller upper lip — without adding any dermal filler.

💉 WHY DOES 1 ML OF LIP FILLER LOOK SO DIFFERENT ON EVERYONE?

One of the most common misconceptions with lip filler is that 1 ml should produce a particular “look” or size. It doesn’t.

1 ml simply describes the volume of product in the syringe. The visible result depends on the individual being treated.

👄 Your starting anatomy matters
Lip width, height, projection, shape, tissue structure and your natural upper-to-lower lip proportions all influence how that volume presents.

💗 Your existing volume matters
Adding 1 ml to naturally small, thin lips can appear very different from adding the same amount to lips that already have good natural volume or previous filler.

💉 Placement and technique matter
Filler can be used to enhance shape, definition, projection, proportions or volume. Where that 1 ml is placed can therefore change the result considerably.

🧬 The product matters
Dermal fillers have different physical properties and are selected according to the anatomy and treatment objective. A millilitre tells us the quantity — not how the product will behave in the tissue.

✨ This is why I assess the person, not just the syringe.

Rather than asking “How many ml do I need?”, a better starting point is:

“What would work best for my anatomy and the result I want to achieve?”

🩷 CHOOSING THE RIGHT AESTHETICS PRACTITIONER

For educational purposes

Choosing an aesthetics practitioner shouldn’t be based on price, followers or a beautiful Instagram page alone.

You’re trusting someone with your face, your body and your wellbeing — so it’s completely reasonable to ask questions before deciding who treats you.

Look at their training and experience. Ask what products they use. Make sure you receive a proper consultation, understand the potential risks as well as the benefits, and know what support is available should you have a concern afterwards.

Most importantly, pay attention to how you feel during your consultation.

You should feel listened to, informed and never pressured into having a treatment.

And remember — a good practitioner won’t always say yes. Sometimes declining, delaying or recommending against a treatment is actually a sign that your practitioner is putting your safety and best interests before making a sale.

Aesthetics is never completely risk-free, but good training, appropriate products, careful assessment, informed consent, high clinical standards and effective complication management all matter.

✨ Ask questions.
✨ Know what is being used.
✨ Understand the risks.
✨ Never be afraid to walk away.

A beautiful example of how hyaluronic acid dermal filler can be used to enhance lip volume, shape and definition while respecting the client’s natural anatomy.

For this treatment, Juvéderm® hyaluronic acid dermal filler was used. Hyaluronic acid fillers are well established in the medical literature for temporary lip augmentation, with studies demonstrating improvements in lip fullness and high levels of patient satisfaction.

My approach is always individualised — assessing existing anatomy, proportions and tissue characteristics rather than trying to create the same lip shape on every client.
