Today we said a very fond farewell to our wonderful Millie, as she sets off on an exciting year of travelling and adventure! 🌎✨

We’re going to miss you very, very much here at the practice, but we’re so excited for everything that lies ahead for you. We wish you a year filled with incredible experiences, unforgettable memories, laughter and most importantly, safety wherever your travels take you. ❤️

Teesdale Day Clubs are holding a unique opportunity to take a walk down memory lane through clothing, fashion, style, and culture.

You are invited to bring along an item of clothing of your own that evokes memories, or a photograph of yourself or perhaps someone your family, to start your conversation.

Amanda from Teesdale Day Clubs will expertly guide you through gentle prompts and sharing to explore what our clothes reveal about our past and our present. This is reminiscence at its best - related to the everyday and using the familiar and everyday to tell our stories.

Don't know what to bring? Just bring yourself and your interest and enthusiasm!

Amanda recently had an exhibition of her Aunt's hats at the Bowes Museum - did you see it? I'm sure she's going to bring along some examples from her own family wardrobe collections!

🩺 Know Your Numbers Week!

High blood pressure often has no obvious signs or symptoms — which is exactly what makes it so important to get checked.

Too many people wait until they feel unwell before having their blood pressure measured. But high blood pressure can increase your risk of serious health problems, including stroke, heart attack and kidney disease.

And it’s not just something older adults need to think about. If you’re in your 20s or 30s, you should know your numbers too.

A blood pressure check takes just a few minutes and could identify a potential health risk early, giving you the opportunity to take action.

💙 So this Know Your Numbers Week, we’re asking you to:

Take a few minutes to check your blood pressure. This can be arranged at the GP practice or at a local pharmacy.
Encourage your family and friends to do the same.
You know your age. But do you know your numbers?

Bowel cancer screening is quick, simple and can be completed in the privacy of your own home.

If you receive an NHS bowel cancer screening kit through the post, please complete it as soon as possible and return it using the prepaid envelope provided.

Bowel cancer screening can help detect signs of cancer at an early stage, when treatment is often more effective. It can also identify changes that may need further investigation before cancer develops.

Gainford Surgery is supporting the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and encouraging all eligible patients to take up their screening invitation.

Do you often wish you had someone to go for a walk with?? Would you like to get out more in the fresh air, but need encouragement and company? This is a great opportunity to walk & talk with the lovely Sue - she's one of our Trustees here at Teesdale Day Clubs, and well known for her gentle exercise groups and informal walks - and she's offered to be a walk guide for us on 22nd August.

If you'd like to join Sue please get in touch with Jenny at [email protected] or PM us on Messenger - and reserve your place.

Meeting time is 10am at the Working Mans Club in Middleton-in-Teesdale in the car park. Bring your own drink and snacks for the walk (we advise plenty of water to drink!).
You are also invited to join Sue for a cuppa and more chat afterwards at one of the many lovely local cafes - this will be on a 'buy your own cuppa' basis, so please also bring some ££.
The walk itself is free to join as we're funded through the Durham Community Action's QUIT project - but you will need to have your own transport to get there.

Stout shoes are also a good idea even though it's been so dry...please come prepared!!

You both need to be registered at the same practice, and the level of access can be tailored to individual need.
