🩺 Bowel Screening: Please Don’t Ignore Your Invitation

πŸ“¬ Have you received a bowel cancer screening test in the post? Please take the time to complete it and return it.

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, but finding it early can make a big difference.

The NHS bowel screening programme is designed to look for signs of bowel cancer before you develop symptoms. The test is simple and can be completed at home.

πŸ’™ Why is screening important?

It can help detect bowel cancer at an early stage.
It can find changes that may develop into cancer.
Early detection can mean treatment is more likely to be successful.
You may feel perfectly well and still benefit from screening.

⏰ Please don't put it off. If you receive a bowel screening kit, follow the instructions and return it as soon as you can.

πŸ‘‰ Screening is for people who feel well too β€” you don't need to have symptoms to take part.

If you have concerns about bowel cancer symptoms, your screening test, or whether you should take part, please speak to your GP or a healthcare professional.

πŸ’™ A few minutes completing your screening test could make a life-changing difference.

β˜€οΈ KEEP SAFE IN THE HOT WEATHER! β˜€οΈ

🌑️ Very warm and hot weather is expected across Darlington this week, with temperatures potentially reaching the mid-30s.

While we all enjoy some sunshine, hot weather can increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke, particularly for older people, young children, babies and people with long-term health conditions.

Please take care of yourself and others:

πŸ’§ Drink plenty of fluids – don’t wait until you feel thirsty.

🧴 Use sun cream – apply regularly and use a high SPF.

🧒 Cover up – wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and a hat when outside.

🌳 Seek shade – especially during the hottest part of the day.

🏠 Keep your home cool – close curtains or blinds in rooms facing the sun and try to stay in the coolest areas of your home.

🚢 Avoid strenuous activity in the heat – consider exercising earlier or later in the day when it is cooler.

πŸ‘ΆπŸ‘΅ Check on vulnerable friends, family and neighbours – particularly older people, babies and young children.

πŸ’Š Taking regular medication? Some medicines can increase your sensitivity to heat or dehydration. Do not stop taking your medication yourself – speak to your GP or pharmacist if you have concerns.

⚠️ If you or someone else becomes confused, very drowsy, has hot skin or loses consciousness, seek urgent medical help.

❀️ Stay cool, stay hydrated and look after one another this week!

πŸ’Šβ˜€οΈ MEDICINES & HOT WEATHER β€” KEEPING YOURSELF SAFE

When the weather is hot, some medicines can make you more sensitive to heat, dehydration or changes in your blood pressure.

Medicines that may be affected include some used for:
πŸ’Š High blood pressure
πŸ’Š Heart conditions
πŸ’Š Diabetes
πŸ’Š Mental health conditions
πŸ’Š Water retention and swelling
πŸ’Š Pain and inflammation

β˜€οΈ What can you do?
β€’ Drink plenty of fluids unless you have been advised to restrict them
β€’ Keep as cool as possible during hot weather
β€’ Avoid excessive alcohol, which can increase dehydration
β€’ Take your medicines exactly as prescribed
β€’ Keep medicines stored according to their instructions β€” some may need to be kept away from heat and direct sunlight

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Do not stop taking prescribed medication because of hot weather unless a healthcare professional tells you to.

If you are worried that your medication could be affected by the heat, speak to your GP, pharmacist or healthcare professional for advice.

πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ Your local pharmacy can also provide advice about many medicines without you needing a GP appointment.

🩡 August is Psoriasis Awareness Month 🩡

Psoriasis is a long-term skin condition that causes patches of skin to become red, flaky, itchy and sometimes painful. It affects around 1 in 50 people in the UK and can occur at any age.
