Every child develops at their own pace, so it’s completely normal for speech and language to look a little different from one child to another.
But there are times when it’s worth seeking advice from a Speech and Language Therapist.
For example:
Your child’s speech is becoming difficult for familiar adults to understand.
They seem frustrated because people don’t understand them.
Their speech doesn’t seem to be becoming clearer over time.
They’re finding it difficult to join in with conversations because of their speech.
You’re worried about their communication.
That last one is important.
You know your child better than anyone. Seeking advice doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong.
Sometimes you’ll be reassured that everything is developing as expected. Sometimes you’ll come away with a few simple strategies to try at home.
And sometimes, early support can make a real difference.
If you’re unsure, it’s always okay to ask.
