A few spaces have opened up in my yoga classes this 7 week Autumn term, beginning 3rd September.

If you’re someone who lives with a niggly, persistent or recurring lower back issue, you might want to read this…

My classes are about so much more than simply showing up and moving your body.

Yes, we move.
Yes, we strengthen.
Yes, we mobilise, breathe and create space.

But woven through every class is my somatic approach, because sometimes our lower back isn’t simply asking for more stretching.

Our bodies can become caught in patterns and habits that have developed over years. The way we sit, stand, walk, breathe, brace, hold tension, respond to stress and even how we unconsciously protect ourselves can all influence how we move and how our body feels, and our nervous system plays a huge part too.

We can become so familiar with these patterns that we don't even realise we're doing them.

This is where I believe yoga can become so much more powerful.

Rather than simply telling your body what shape to make, I invite you to slow down enough to feel what is actually happening.

To notice.

To become curious.

To recognise your habits and patterns.

To understand your nervous system responses.

And, through gentle, mindful movement, begin to create different choices.

Because lasting change isn't always about doing MORE, sometimes it's about becoming more aware.

It's about teaching your body that it doesn't always have to brace, grip, protect or stay on high alert.

My intention is for you to leave class feeling more connected to your body, more aware of your patterns and more empowered to make different choices.

So if you've been looking for a yoga class that goes a little deeper than the physical stretch type of practice…I currently have a few spaces available this term.

Perhaps this is your invitation to come and experience it for yourself. 🤍

There is something deeply satisfying about making things from nature with my own hands.
This is elderberry syrup, ready for the autumn and winter months.

I think part of the pleasure comes from knowing that something so simple can become an act of nurture, taking the time to make something for myself and the people I love.

Perhaps this is why I’ve always loved the ritual of food.
Making it. Sharing it. Sitting down together.

In yoga, yuj means union
to join, to connect, to bring together.

And personally I think food has its own beautiful way of creating union too. Around a table, we pause, we connect, we nourish one another, we share stories, laughter, conversation and sometimes comfortable silence😅.

So perhaps making this little bottle of elderberry syrup is about more than the syrup itself.

It’s about slowing down.
Connecting with nature.
Creating something with intention.
And nurturing the people I love.

Nature is medicine. 🌿

POV: what breakfast looks like on retreat 🤍

When breakfast becomes an experience…

Delicious food ✔️
Slow mornings ✔️
Beautiful surroundings ✔️
No rushing anywhere ✔️
Plenty of time to chat, laugh & just be ✔️

Sometimes, the most restorative thing we can do is simply slow down enough to receive it all.

Honestly… can we make every morning like this? 😍

Nature has a way of inviting us to slow down.

For years I've walked past elderflowers without ever really seeing them, completely unaware of the gift they held.

Perhaps that's true of so much in life.

We hurry past nature, and we hurry past ourselves.

Always searching for something more...

Until one day we slow down enough to notice what has been here all along.

This year I did.

My first homemade elderflower cordial, enjoyed over these hot summer day's and evening's....feels like bottling a little piece of summer.

There's only a brief window each year when the elderflowers bloom, reminding us that nature has its own rhythms and seasons. Some opportunities ask us not to rush, but simply to pay attention.

It's a beautiful reminder of what I witness every week through my own somatic movements and during my classes.

Our bodies have been speaking to us all along.

A somatic practice simply gives us the space to hear them.

Sometimes wellbeing isn't something we have to chase.

Sometimes it's simply remembering how to listen.

Next year, I'll be making elderflower champagne... but for now, I'm simply enjoying this little taste of summer. 🥂

May this be your reminder to notice what's quietly blooming around you... and within you.

The summer terms ends 3rd August ☀️

Autumn term begins 3rd September 🍂

☀️ Summer Yoga Term Begins Tomorrow ☀️
I’ve just returned from a beautiful few days in Milano, a very active city break where we walked around 24,000 steps a day exploring the streets, soaking up the culture and enjoying everything this wonderful city had to offer.
But one thing I came home reflecting on was the Italian expression: Il dolce far niente ✨
The sweetness of doing nothing.
How often do we find stillness difficult?
That little voice that says… “I should be doing something…”
Because there is always something to do, isn’t there? Another task, another goal, another reason to keep moving.
And yet our nervous system needs moments of pause too.
Stillness isn’t about being unproductive, it’s an opportunity to down-regulate, reorient and reconnect. It gives our body the chance to move out of constant doing and into a place of rest, awareness and presence.
I often talk about the green light reflex in class, that part of us that is brilliant at moving forward, achieving and getting things done. These qualities serve us well, but when we are always in that forward gear, we can forget the importance of slowing down, softening and simply being.
This is why our yoga practice matters.
A place to breathe.
A place to listen.
A place to come home to ourselves.

The summer term begins tomorrow ☀️
And there are a few places still open for anyone feeling called to join us.

You are warmly invited to join me at Durham Yoga Group
Saturday 16th May 10-12pm

The next session with Durham Yoga Group at Belmont Parish Hall is at 10am to Midday on Saturday 16th May with Tara Sellars.

Tara is an experienced teacher devoted to movement and wellbeing, with roots in yoga and a deep focus on somatics. Trained with the British Wheel of Yoga and a certified Gentle Somatic Yoga® practitioner, she shares her work through regular classes, workshops and retreats in the UK & Italy. Her approach blends yoga, somatic movement, breath, and functional movement to support longevity, vitality, and ease in every day life.

For the first half of this workshop, you will be guided through a somatic movement journey, supported by the ground, allowing you to gently let go of the outside world and arrive fully into your body.
In the second half, we will transition towards standing—exploring uprightness as a foundation for everyday life. Through exploratory movement, we will cultivate stability, resilience, and longevity, inviting greater awareness, curiosity, and connection within the body.
A yoga brick/block is required for the session.

love british summer time and late evening daylight, here are a few reasons why:

☀️ Supports your circadian rhythm – Evening daylight helps regulate your internal clock, which can improve sleep quality and energy levels.

🧠 Boosts mood and reduces stress – Natural light and gentle movement increase serotonin and reduce cortisol, supporting emotional balance.

🚶‍♀️ Aids digestion – Light movement after eating has been shown to support blood sugar regulation and digestion.

💛 Enhances mind-body awareness – Walking mindfully helps you drop out of the thinking mind and into sensation — a core somatic practice.

🌿 Improves overall health – Regular walking is linked to reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and improved metabolic health.

Let this season be a reminder: your wellbeing doesn’t always require more effort — sometimes it simply asks for a little more presence, a little more light, and a willingness to step outside.

Tonight, if you can, take a walk. Feel your feet. Notice your breath. Let the day land gently.

With love & light
Tara 💫

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is slow down.
There’s something about being in nature — the sound of water, the stillness, the space — that gently calms the nervous system and brings us back to ourselves. It reminds us that we don’t always need to push forward at full speed. Sometimes, we need to pause… so we can move forward with more clarity and intention.

I’ve taken this past week off to do exactly that. While it may have looked quiet from the outside, there’s been so much happening behind the scenes — planning, creating, refining. Workshops, classes, lesson plans, and something I’m really excited about… an upcoming retreat in Italy 🇮🇹 2027

There are a few places available in my regular classes, so if you’ve been feeling the pull to step away, reset, and reconnect, send me a DM

Classes restart next week, and I’m really looking forward to being back on the mat with you all 💚
In health & vitality
Tara
