A huge thank you to all the wonderful families who attended our annual Teddy Bears Picnic and helped make the day so special. Your presence made the picnic what it was.

The Accreditation Team is proud and delighted to share the fantastic news that Mottingham, Avery Hill and Enhanced Care Unit at QMH has achieved a remarkable overall score of 91% in their ward accreditation assessment. This means they have gained a GOLD award.

Performance across the Five CQC Domains:

Safe: 92% - Gold
Caring: 90% โ€“ Gold
Effective: 96% - Gold
Responsive: 78% โ€“ Silver
Well-led: 94% - Gold
The Ward Accreditation programme was established within the Trust to benchmark internal standards against those set by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). This initiative enables us to gain valuable insight into the quality of care being delivered, while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Above all, it reinforces our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety across the organisation.

This achievement is a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork demonstrated by the entire QMH team. Your commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care is truly commendable, and this recognition reflects both strong leadership and a positive, collaborative culture.

The award was presented in QMH by Chief Nurse Di Gambrell and Assistant Chief Nurse Julia Walsh, who congratulated the team on their wonderful performance and recognised this as a significant achievement for the ward. The team are now the first team to be able to apply for Platinum and be considered for the Rye-Kartar Award for exemplar ward status.

The Accreditation Team is delighted to share fantastic news that our Surgical Assessment Unit has achieved an overall score of 93% in their first department accreditation assessment. This means they have gained an amazing GOLD award.

This Gold Award reflects the excellence and values that Mr. Dunckley embodied throughout his career. The team proudly dedicate this achievement to him."

The award was presented to the SAU team by Chief Nurse Diane Gambrell and Assistant Chief Nurse Julia Walsh who congratulated the team on their wonderful performance and recognised this as a significant achievement for the ward. Also present was Mrs Brenda Stacey who played a key role in the initiative behind SAU and came into see the award presented despite the fact she has now retired.

We're looking forward to welcoming our Blossom Babies families to our annual Teddy Bears' Picnic on Sunday 9 August 2026.

This special event is for families whose babies were born at Darent Valley Hospital following a previous pregnancy or baby loss. It is an opportunity to come together, celebrate your little ones, share memories, and connect with other families who have experienced a similar journey.
