Motability funded tuition - recent update to eligibility criteria
The Motability Foundation website https://www.motabilityfoundation.org.uk/individual-grants/driving-lessons has recently been updated to add that when applying for funded tuition, if you need driving adaptations you must now include a Driving Mobility assessment report with the application for grant funding.
We advise applicants to first complete a Motability adaptation review https://www.motability.co.uk/get-support/contact/adaptations-review; this is offered by Motability Operations (the company that manages the car scheme) and they should then refer you for and pay for a Driving Mobility assessment to explore the most suitable method of vehicle control and identify the most appropriate adaptations. The assessment centre will then produce an assessment report which the applicant will need to include with the application to Motability Foundation for grant funding.

The Driving Lessons Grant is only for disabled people who are on the Motability Scheme and meet the additional programme criteria.

Disability and Mobility Grants

If you have a disability and are on certain mobility benefits, you may qualify for free driving lessons.

Who qualifies: You must be receiving the enhanced mobility component of PIP, the higher-rate mobility component of DLA, or War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement.

How it works: The Motability Foundation offers a Driving Lessons Grant that covers up to 40 hours of practical driving tuition to help you learn to drive in your own adapted vehicle or a standard car.
