💚 Another step in my learning journey… 💚
Over the last two days I’ve had the privilege of completing the internationally recognised ASIST (Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training) programme, and I’m incredibly proud to now be ASIST certified.
Su***de is one of the most difficult subjects we can talk about, but it’s also one of the most important.
The training was delivered in such a compassionate, supportive and safe environment that it allowed us to explore a very challenging topic with confidence, empathy and respect. It has genuinely been one of the best training courses I’ve attended.
Over the two days I’ve gained practical skills, knowledge and, most importantly, the confidence to recognise when someone may be experiencing thoughts of su***de, to ask the difficult questions with compassion, and to help keep that person safe while supporting them to access the appropriate professional help.
Whether I’m treating patients at Darwen Acupuncture Clinic, supporting community projects through AcuMinds CIC, volunteering with Darwen Community Helpers, or simply having a conversation with someone in everyday life, these are skills that I hope I never need to use—but I’m incredibly grateful to now have them if someone ever needs that support.
Thank you to the fantastic trainers and everyone on the course for creating such an open, respectful and encouraging learning environment. It really has been an unforgettable experience.
💚 Learning never stops. Every course I complete is another step towards becoming a better practitioner, a better volunteer and a better support for the people who place their trust in me.
If this post encourages just one person to check in on a friend, ask someone how they’re really doing, or reach out for support themselves, then it’s been worth sharing.
Take care of yourselves, and don’t underestimate the power of simply listening. 💚
