✨ Fun Friday Focus ✨
As promised, today I am following on from last Friday’s post introducing the hardworking Committee behind Deal Spiritual Centre.
This week, I would like to focus on our Vice-President — Wendy.
We hope you enjoy reading a little about her journey and all she has given to our Centre over the years. ❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wendy is Anne’s daughter and, like Anne, was brought up within the Church of England faith, attending church services, a church school and later being confirmed.
Wendy was just 11 years old when her family moved to a relatively new house in Walmer.
Almost immediately, unusual things began to happen. Doors and windows opened and closed on their own. At first the activity was witnessed only by Wendy, but over time many visitors experienced it too. Soon objects began moving in front of people’s eyes.
Wendy recalls inviting her school friends to visit her “haunted house” to witness the activity for themselves. Later she began seeing a spirit boy in her bedroom — a figure also seen by her six-year-old brother. The experiences left her frightened and unwilling to be alone, even at night.
Concerned, Anne took Wendy to the family GP, wondering whether she might need psychiatric help. To her surprise, the doctor told her that she had a psychic daughter and suggested she speak to their vicar.
The vicar visited several times and did his best to help. Eventually, unsure what more he could do, he suggested that Anne take Wendy to the local Spiritualist Church.
Having already attended a few services herself, Anne felt comfortable taking her daughter along. During Wendy’s very first visit she received a message from her recently departed and much-loved uncle.
That was it — she was hooked.
Together, Anne and Wendy began attending services, evenings of mediumship and other events. Over time Wendy received the support, understanding and guidance she needed. Eventually they joined a Development Circle when Wendy was 16, beginning their own exploration of mediumship and spiritual development.
Wanting to give something back to the community that had helped her so much, Wendy later joined the Committee.
Her first role was Social and Fundraising Secretary, organising many successful events, including a large annual Mind, Body & Spirit Festival at Mongeham.
She later became Treasurer when the previous Treasurer was suddenly unable to continue in the role.
Around twenty years ago Wendy became Vice-President and has worked alongside Anne ever since, helping to ensure the smooth running of the Centre both physically and spiritually, while offering guidance and support to many visitors along the way.
Alongside her spiritual interests, Wendy also had a strong passion for science and trained as a Microbiologist, working for Pfizer.
In the 1990s, Anne and Wendy were asked to take over the monthly spiritual workshops at The Centre after Jean, who had previously run them, moved away. Eager to continue the work, they accepted the challenge and One Step at a Time Spiritual Training School was born.
The workshops proved extremely popular, attracting people eager to learn more about spiritual development. Wendy’s combination of scientific training and spiritual experience helped create a balanced approach that students appreciated, enabling her to answer questions from both practical and spiritual perspectives.
Wendy later became a Spiritual Healer before going on to study Reiki, eventually becoming a Reiki Master and Teacher. Together, Anne and Wendy developed and taught Reiki courses that continue to benefit many students today.
Believing that a knowledge of counselling would also be valuable, they studied through Kent at Canterbury University and gained a counselling qualification.
Wendy later completed training in Hypnotherapy with a special interest in Past Life Regression, a subject that had fascinated her since she began experiencing spontaneous past-life memories during her teenage years.
Those experiences eventually led her to write and publish a book sharing her story. (See comments for details.)
As One Step at a Time continued to grow, Wendy trained as a teacher through Christchurch University, helping her further develop her skills as an educator and workshop leader.
Along the way she also developed Trance Mediumship and has given demonstrations at The Centre, London and overseas, including France, Spain, Malta and Turkey. While she enjoys the connection with spirit that trance provides, it is often the philosophy and wisdom shared through trance that she finds most yrewarding.
Sadly, Wendy has faced significant health challenges throughout her life and now lives with several complex, life-limiting conditions. Despite this, she continues to support the Centre with determination, positivity and a deep sense of purpose.
For Wendy, spirituality has never simply been something she teaches. It has been one of the things that has helped sustain her through difficult times, giving her strength, meaning and hope.
Today she continues her role as Vice-President, working tirelessly behind the scenes to support the Centre, its visitors, its students and its future.
Wendy remains incredibly proud of everything that has been achieved over the past 49 years and hopes to continue serving the Centre for as long as she is able.
One day she would also like to complete her next book, Madness, Mayhem and Mediumship — beginning with the day an 11-year-old girl moved into a house in Walmer and discovered that life was about to become far more interesting than she could ever have imagined.
Like Anne, Wendy’s hope has always been that Deal Spiritual Centre remains a place of love, comfort and belonging — somewhere every person who walks through the doors feels welcomed, supported and included.
Together, the Committee, Healing Team and tutors have built a wonderful reputation and we are blessed to welcome visitors from far and wide. Many visiting mediums tell us that the atmosphere, warmth and professionalism of our Centre are among the very best they experience.
Wendy is deeply grateful for the support, friendships, healing and opportunities she has received over the last 49 years and looks forward to continuing the journey for many years to come. ❤️
