The Dual Process Model of Loss by Stroebe and Schut (1999) conceptualises coping with every day life and coping as moving between the loss and then back to restoring and rebuilding life after loss.

The loss orientated coping might involve confronting the grief. The restoration activities might include adapting and practical aspects.

This process is thought to move forward when loss has occurred.

I have two other theories illustrated on my page in various ways. Please take a look.

What other theories or metaphors of grief would you like to see?

Does this model resonate?

1 in 8 men have no close friends. Not one person they'd feel comfortable calling in a crisis.

Male friendships tend to be built around shared activity rather than shared conversation. Which works well, until the activity disappears. A job change. Kids. Moving away.

And then the scaffolding is gone and there's nothing holding the connection up.

It's not weakness. It's not laziness. It's a pattern that's so common it barely gets noticed until someone is already struggling alone.

Isolation is one of the biggest risk factors for men's mental health. Understanding how it happens matters.

If you’re feeling lonely, there are things you can do to combat this. There are so many groups across the country that are being set up to combat male loneliness. Like the group Shoulder To Shoulder ( https://shoulder.mn.co/ ) check out the amazing work they’re doing and look out for groups similar to this in your area.
