Like many people across the country, we have followed the recent news with a deep sense of sadness and disbelief. Our thoughts are with every family affected by these distressing events.

As an independent family funeral business serving communities across Derbyshire and Staffordshire, we understand that the trust placed in a funeral director is unlike any other. Families come to us during some of the most difficult moments of their lives, placing the care of someone they love into our hands. We never forget the responsibility that carries.

For generations, the Jepson family has built its reputation on the values of dignity, compassion, integrity and respect. Today, those same principles guide every member of our team across our ten independent funeral homes. Every person entrusted to our care is treated as we would wish our own loved ones to be treated—with kindness, professionalism and the utmost respect.

Hi everyone, it’s Josh.

I can’t quite believe it’s already been two months since J. Barlow Funeral Directors became part of Thomas Ryde & Son.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone who has continued to support us. We know that change can sometimes feel a little uncertain, so the trust you’ve continued to place in us really does mean a great deal.

One thing I really want to reassure people about is that I’m still here, and I’m still able to help and support families in exactly the same way I always have.

Although we’re now part of Thomas Ryde & Son, the values that J. Barlow was built on—kindness, compassion and caring for our local community—remain at the heart of everything we do.

From all of us, thank you once again for your continued support. We truly appreciate it, and we’re proud to continue serving our community, just as we always have. Whenever you need us, we’ll be here.

After much thought, I wanted to share an important update regarding J Barlow & Family.

While I had been planning to close the business, I’m pleased to confirm that the business has now been acquired by a trusted and well-respected local funeral business, Jepson Funerals Limited . This ensures that the name and legacy of J Barlow & Family can continue to serve the community.

I’m also pleased to share that I will be continuing in my role as a Funeral Director as part of their team, from Thomas Ryde & Son in Belper. This means I can continue to personally support the families I have had the privilege to serve over the years in Allestree and the surrounding area.

This decision ensures continuity of care for our community and allows me to carry on doing what matters most—supporting families during difficult times.

Thank you to everyone who has supported J Barlow & Family over the years. Your trust has meant everything.

We’re pleased to share an important update for the Belper community.

We have recently acquired the business of J Barlow & Family Funeral Services, ensuring that this well-known and respected name can continue to serve families locally.

As part of this transition, Josh Barlow will now be joining Thomas Ryde & Son as our new Funeral Director. Josh brings many years of experience and a reputation for caring and professional support to families.

Josh and Fiona will be working closely together, and they look forward to meeting many of you at the local events we are planning to attend this summer.

Both businesses will now operate from our premises in Belper where we remain committed to supporting our local community with the highest standards of care, respect, and understanding.
