โฑ๏ธ The Acute Stroke Response Team at Royal Derby Hospital have been praised for their improvement work to ensure stroke patients get the right care they need as quickly as possible.
๐ The team have made significant improvements to the stroke pathway, including collaborating with East Midlands Ambulance Service and Officialwmas to increase the number of patients who are pre-alerted to them before arriving at hospital - which means the team can prepare in advance and begin assessment and treatment sooner.
๐ This work has helped increase the number of our patients receiving a treatment known as thrombolysis. This is a time-critical treatment that, when safe to do so and administered early, helps to dissolve blood clots and restore blood flow to the brain.
๐ Stephen Posey, UHDB Chief Executive, surprised the team with a Making a Difference Award in recognition of the team driving improvements in stroke care at the Trust - who said their work is having a "direct impact on the quality and efficiency of care being received by our patients - in an area of medicine where time really is of the essence."
๐ A huge congratulations to the team and those across UHDB, EMAS and WMAS who have worked together to make this work possible and are continuing to focus on ways that can help our communities access more timely treatment when they really need it.
