World Hepatitis Day 2026

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver, often caused by a virus or excessive alcohol consumption over an extended period of time. World Hepatitis Day is a great way of highlighting the symptoms, risk factors and treatments of the condition and reducing the stigma around it.

The hepatitis virus can be transmitted in several ways. In the dental practice, using instruments that have not been correctly cleaned and sterilised can spread Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, as well as if dental staff fail to wear correct PPE or manage sharps safely. Play your part this World Hepatitis Day and raise awareness on the importance of infection control!

DentiGel and DentiSure Foam are two of our reliable hand hygiene products, and each is a practice staple. But what’s the difference?

DentiGel – Ready-to-use alcohol hand rub that is gentle on hard-working hands and tailored for use after hand washing. It includes skin conditioners to prevent dryness and soreness and is BS EN 1500 compliant too.

DentiSure Foam – Use after handwashing and drying to keep the hands sanitised. The unique formulation is effective against enveloped viruses and is BS EN 1500 compliant. Ideal for those looking for a non-alcohol alternative that protects the hands.

Make DentiGel or DentiSure Foam an essential part of your workflow today!

Hand hygiene myth: Most infections are airborne.

Some infections are airborne, but almost 80% are spread by touch. From direct contact with a patient to indirect contact, such as through a contaminated surface (door handles, instruments, pens – the list is endless!), there is a risk of infection transmission.

Remind others that touch is a leading cause of transmission. By keeping hands clean, we can reduce the risk of direct and indirect infection.

Clean Water Club – Susan Mulholland, practice manager at Highgate House Dental Practice:

“The Clean Water Club is excellent. We use the Dentisan dip slides and the daily and weekly purge to keep our dental unit water lines clean. Our dip slide pictures are sent to the Dentisan lab team every three months and we receive instant confidence that our practice is being compliant. We recently had a CQC inspection and they were really pleased with the Dentisan products and training sessions that have become corner stones of our daily practice.”

A massive thank you to Susan and the team at Highgate House – we look forward to returning.

Today is Chronic Disease Awareness Day, an annual event that seeks to address the impact of debilitating conditions.

Chronic diseases and infection control are two parts of a puzzle, with a bidirectional relationship. In some cases, a preventable infection can facilitate a chronic condition, whilst those with a chronic condition may have a weakened immune system and are therefore at a greater risk to a severe infection.

With first-class infection control, we can better support patients with a chronic disease. Find out more today!

Quiz!

What is a risk that dental professionals should be aware of when wearing PPE?

1. It always scares patients.
2. It can create a false sense of security and reduce hand washing frequency.
3. It can negatively impact clinical success.
4. It is not fashionable.

Yes, even when wearing PPE dental professionals are not completely safe from infection transmission. Gloves and masks can still accumulate microorganisms so you must remain vigilant with washing your hands consistently.
