John had a fantastic trip out with our activities' coordinator Kerry to the Derby Silk Mill. He has been spending some time researching the history of Abbey Court or, as it was previously known, the Derby Malt Vinegar Brewery. Derby Silk Mill houses the steam engine that once powered the machinery at the vinegar malt, and they even have some of the old vinegar bottles on display. John learned so much about Abbey Court's history and received lots of assistance from the wonderful team at the Silk Mill

Today marks the start of Dyslexia Awareness Week, which aims to build understanding, challenge barriers and, this year particularly, empower adults with dyslexia to thrive within their workplaces. This year's awareness event focuses on workplace adjustments and recruitment practices, reinforcing the fact that dyslexic adults can, and do make amazing contributions in every field. We are thrilled to announce that our sunflower growing competition was won by the lovely John. He grew the tallest sunflower over the summer. His prize was a tin of biscuits and a bottle of aftershave... oh, and the immense honour of calling himself the Abbey Court Sunflower Champion!

We are very excited to announce that our care group are the successful bidder in today’s auction for the former Castle Court Care Home in Castle Gresley, Swadlincote, Derbyshire.

Your Health have been operating care homes since 1995, and our company's roots are in South Derbyshire with our Central Office located on Hearthcote Road in Swadlincote. It is very important to us that the property remains a care home and we will now be working with Derbyshire County Council and the Care Quality Commission, to progress the sale and get ready to reopen our doors in the very near future!

We are very proud of our efforts to make our garden a bit greener. Check out all the sunflowers we planted a few months ago. We have been out measuring them this week, with a bit of friendly competition amongst the green fingered residents and staff! 🌻 Winner to be announced on Monday!
