“Borderline.”
That’s what the GP said. But when you actually look properly, it tells a very different story.
Total cholesterol 7.2
LDL 4.6
Triglycerides 2.99
HDL 1.29
Non-HDL 5.9
This isn’t borderline. This is a pattern.
👉 Atherogenic lipid profile
👉 Likely insulin resistance
👉 High triglycerides with lower HDL pointing towards metabolic dysfunction
👉 Strong suggestion of visceral fat, the harmful internal fat not always obvious externally
And visceral fat is not just sitting there. It’s metabolically active, pro-inflammatory, and quietly driving cardiovascular risk.
You can almost predict what sits alongside this
• Raised blood pressure
• Worsening insulin resistance
• Higher long term cardiovascular risk
The frustrating part is this often gets brushed off as just slightly raised.
The positive is it is very reversible when you target the root cause properly.
I picked this up during a standard 20 minute NHS consultation and started the process there and then. We have structured follow up booked, which is where the real change happens.
The Takeaway!
Don’t be reassured by the word borderline without understanding what’s actually going on underneath.
If you’ve had bloods done, or a family member has, and you’re not sure what they really mean, get them properly interpreted.
This is exactly what I specialise in. Cardiovascular, renal and metabolic health.
If you want clarity, you know where I am.
