👀 Looking for safe sleep advice? 😴

When it comes to your baby’s sleep, there can be a lot of conflicting information online and from well-meaning friends and family.

For the most up-to-date, evidence-based safer sleep guidance, I always recommend visiting the Lullaby Trust website. Their advice is based on the latest research and is widely used by healthcare professionals across the UK.

Every baby, every sleep:
💤 On their back
💤 In a clear, flat sleep space
💤 In the same room as you for at least the first 6 months
💤 In a smoke-free environment

Tonight is week 4 for our current expectant parents and we will be covering all of this and more, to support and prepare them for the early days with their babies! 👶🏼

✨ Confidence starts with knowledge. ✨

Pregnancy, birth and becoming a parent can feel exciting, overwhelming, empowering and uncertain all at the same time.

At Auntie-Natal, my aim isn’t to tell you what choices to make—it’s to give you the information, support and space to make the choices that feel right for you and your family.

Whether you’re planning a home birth, a caesarean birth, breastfeeding, formula feeding, or simply trying to work out what to pack in your hospital bag, you deserve evidence-based information delivered with kindness and without judgement.

Because when parents feel informed, they feel more confident. And confidence can make all the difference.

🤍 Midwife-led antenatal education
🤍 Evidence-based information
🤍 Inclusive, supportive and parent-centred

🌹 I had the most unexpected but wonderful delivery today from a lovely couple who have recently welcomed their beautiful baby into the world, after attending one of my courses.
❤️ You will all never know how much of an honour it is to be a part of your journey, and how much it is me wanting to thank you for letting me in.
🥰 But little things like this, though never ever expected, really do touch my heart and make me so greatful that I get to do this ‘job’ every day!

☀️ Pregnant in a Heatwave? Here are some midwife-approved ways to stay safe and comfortable 🥵

Pregnancy naturally raises your body temperature, increases your blood volume and makes dehydration happen more quickly — so hot weather can feel a lot.
A few gentle reminders if you’re growing a baby during the warmer days… 🌿

☀️ Drink little and often
Don’t wait until you feel thirsty. Keep a water bottle nearby and sip regularly throughout the day. Ice lollies, fruit and diluted squash can help too.

☀️ Stay out of the midday heat where possible
Try to avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day (usually around 11am–3pm).

☀️ Loose, breathable clothing is your friend
Cotton, linen and floaty layers can help your body regulate temperature more comfortably.

☀️ Cool your pulse points
A cold flannel on your neck, wrists or ankles can make a surprising difference.

☀️ Rest when your body asks for it
Heat can increase dizziness, swelling and exhaustion in pregnancy. Slowing down is not laziness — it’s listening to your body.

☀️ Keep an eye on swelling
Some swelling can be normal in pregnancy, especially in hot weather, but if swelling is sudden, severe, or associated with headache, visual changes or feeling unwell, contact your maternity unit.

☀️ Sleep hacks for hot nights
• Keep blinds closed during the day
• Use a fan safely and indirectly
• Try a cool shower before bed
• Pop pillowcases in the fridge for a few minutes before sleep

☀️ Know when to seek advice
Contact your midwife or maternity triage if you experience:
• Reduced movements
• Feeling faint or unable to keep fluids down
• Persistent headache
• Contractions/cramping
• Signs of heat exhaustion

Pregnancy in the heat can feel relentless — be gentle with yourself and take things slower if you need to 🌸

❤️ Things midwives really wish more parents knew…

You do not need to earn support by having a certain type of birth, feeding in a certain way or coping silently.

Good maternity care should always be:
• evidence based
• compassionate
• respectful
• centred around informed choice

Every family deserves to feel listened to and supported throughout pregnancy, birth and early parenthood ✨
