Robert Bush from Legacy Funerals has now been sentenced to 20 years for 67 offences, including preventing lawful burials and fraud. Our thoughts are firmly with the families of those who have been impacted by his disgraceful actions and understand the pain he has caused will never go away for them. Funeral directors like us do our job because we care so deeply about supporting families and caring the deceased, ensuring each funeral we conduct is done so with upmost professionalism, respect, dignity and compassion.
We work 24 hours a day, seven days a week because it is our honour to be there for our community during the most difficult times. Our role can be tough, but it is incredibly rewarding and knowing we can make a profound difference during someone's time of need makes every second worthwhile.
The vast majority of funeral directors care for each deceased like we would our own family, and are honoured to help guide the families we serve during such a sad, confusing and overwhelming time.
It is understandable that public trust has been shaken after hearing the extremely disturbing details of this horrific case. The vast majority of us do our job because we are passionate about helping those who are bereaved and caring for the deceased. Being members of the National Association of Funeral Directors means we have regular inspections in our premises and adhere to strict code of practices, set internally and by the NAFD themselves. We also get inspected by the Environmental department at the council and hold ourselves to the highest of standards.
We join the call for the funeral industry to be regulated to ensure that all funeral directors are held to exemplary standards of care for both the living and the deceased. Nobody should ever have to question if the ashes they are receiving are in fact their loved ones, and if they are being cared for in appropriate facilities. Mr Bush has committed the most vile of offences and we welcome his sentence, although nothing will ever eradicate the harm he has caused.
We, like so many others, proudly serve our community because we are passionate about the care and services we provide, and we always strive to do the very best for the families we serve π©
