If we look for something positive on a daily basis — like when walking and before meals, the brain gets into the habit of looking for positive things. Which makes it easier to become consciously aware of them. Daily.

We often see Einstein‘s famous quote: “the thinking that gets us into a problem can’t be the thinking that gets us out of that problem”.

 Think about venting. There are two different types. One is just perpetual complaining — that replays a problem I’m generates the same feeling, again and again and again. And that keeps us in a rumination loop.

There’s a better version.

First, identify the problem.
Next, identify the feeling that it creates.
Then, identify the next step forward.

That third step is the one that makes all the difference.

When we experience a stressful thought for what it is— just a thought, not reality —we can let it pass through without letting it persist in our head like an unwelcome relative foisting themselves on us.
