Are you feeling frazzled?

Was the summer fun, busy, but also, quite frazzling?

There's always some pressure to be out and about and doing a lot whilst the sun is shining... and oh how it has shined for us this year.

But the intense busyness can also result in burn out.

So I'm wondering if you may feel, that now we're coming into September, into a new season, one that is bringing in the darker and cosier evenings, that it's time to slow down and time to find something just for you, to fill up your cup again. And you don't have to feel guilty for it.

This is the oxygen mask theory. And 'you can't pour from an empty cup' ... that one too 🙂

If you are feeling like you need something just for you... to replenish your soul... and lift your mood.... I might be able to help.

🌿 Make and Meditate wellbeing events... happening on 19th and 20th September. Two beautiful days of creativity and stillness. There are some spaces left on 19th, but only ONE left for the 20th... if you've been thinking about coming... get in there quick!

🌿 My Talk Touch Heal treatment combining a safe space to talk along with restorative bodywork, massage and Reiki healing... is an overall reset for the body and mind. There are sessions available.

🌿 Reiki or massage treatments are also available if you need some dedicated time to replenish your body and your nervous system

🌿 The Reclaim Series - Group Reiki Drumming - coming in November
My group Reiki drum sound healing event on 28th September is now fully booked, but I've started planning something for November. Four drum journey sessions where we can reclaim what we might have lost - our voice, our courage, our worth and our dreams. If any of those words resonate with you, please send me a DM and I can let you have more details once they are ready.
Please get in touch if any of these sound like a 'bit of you'

Reasons why a Make and Meditate gathering might NOT be for you:

🚫 You hate homemade cake and delicious food
🚫 You find laughing with warm, welcoming women deeply
unpleasant
🚫 You already feel 100% calm, relaxed and regulated all of the
time (if so, please teach me what you're doing!)
🚫 You'd rather scroll on your phone than create something with
your hands
🚫 The idea of switching off for a few hours sounds awful
🚫 You don't believe you deserve a little time for yourself

Reasons it might suit you perfectly:

✨ You crave slowing down, but don't quite know how to switch
off on your own
✨ You love the idea of creativity, but rarely make time for it
✨ You want to meet warm, like-minded women in a relaxed
setting
✨ You'd love eating delicious, homecooked, nutritious food
without rushing
✨ You like the idea of meditation, but find it easier when guided
✨ You'd like permission to stop and just 'be' for a few hours

If the second list sounds more like you, I'd love to welcome you to join me and the other lovely ladies at one of the next Make and Meditate gatherings 😊

Please comment below or DM me if you're interested or would like some more information.

The Autumn gatherings are on...
Saturday 19th September (with lunch, snacks and cake, £77)

Sunday 20th September (snacks and cake, £47) - only 2 spots left!

Now that the summer holidays are coming to an end...

✨✨✨ Maybe it's time for you ✨✨✨

If you feel you need something for yourself, I offer a few different treatments and have some free slots in September.

✨My signature treatment - Talk Touch Heal is wonderful for the mind and body, combining different styles of massage and bodywork with Reiki. It works by not only softening tension in the muscles but also soothing the nervous system and settling the mind.

After having this treatment clients report feeling deeply relaxed, clear in their mind, lighter, stronger, happier, more energised and resilient, joyful, refreshed and less stressed / anxious.

It's a wonderful way to support yourself if you've been feeling overwhelmed, dealing with big life changes, low on energy or when you're feeling stretched too thin... this treatment will help your body and mind feel more grounded, calmer and better able to cope with everyday life.

✨I also offer deep tissue and holistic massage

✨Postnatal massage

✨Reiki energy healing

If any of these are calling you in... please see the link in the comments for more details or feel free to DM me.

✨✨✨Have a lovely evening ✨✨✨

It's less than a month until the Autumn Make and Meditate gatherings.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

So I thought I'd share the recipe for the welcome snack I made for the first event, back in March.

It's totally delicious!

✨✨Dates dipped in chocolate ✨✨

Ingredients

✨20 Medjool dates - soft and large
✨8-10 tbsp nut butter - I used smooth
almond
✨1 cup dark chocolate chips or broken bar
(approx. 70% cocoa) 150-200g
✨1-2 tsp coconut oil for smoother melting
✨Optional toppings: flaky sea salt and /or
chopped pistachios / almonds for added
crunch and flavour

Method:
1. Slice dates lengthwise, remove the pit and fill each with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of nut butter.
2. Place stuffed dates in the freezer for 10-15 minutes to make them easier to dip.
3. Melt chocolate with coconut oil in a bowl sitting on a bubbling saucepan or in the microwave in 20 second increments, stirring until smooth.
4. Dip each whole date into the chocolate, ensuring full coverage. Place on a parchment lined tray, sprinkle with salt and/or nuts, and pop in the fridge for 30-45 minutes until set.

✨✨ ENJOY ✨✨

Extra info...
✨Medjool dates are recommended for their
soft, caramel like texture. However it is
possible to use other dates.
✨Store in an airtight container in the fridge.
✨Layer them between sheets of parchment/
baking paper so they don't stick together
✨Let them sit at room temperature for 5–10
minutes before eating

Little disclaimer... I forgot to take a photo of mine... but the ones in the below photo look just as good!

I find this breathing technique works especially well for sleep related issues.

I went through a period years ago where I kept waking up really early in the morning, feeling wired, and quite anxious.

I would try so hard to get back to sleep, but couldn't.

After a while I wouldn't even bother trying and would spend the day feeling tired and having to accept it.

Then I discovered this breathing technique and it was a game changer.

It's the box breathing technique.

You breathe in for 4 counts
Hold the breath for 4 counts
Breathe out for 4 counts
Hold the breath for 4 counts

Whilst you breathe, for each part, you imagine drawing a line until you have a full square (box).

The breath calms your body and nervous system and allows the body to move into a restful, sleepy state.

And when you concentrate your thoughts on one thing (drawing the box) it means you stop thinking about all of the other things "I can't sleep" "I have so much to do today" - you get the gist.

The combination of doing these two things together for five or so minutes helps the body settle into sleep.

It might be something you need to try a few times until the body trusts it... but as I said, for me, it's been a game changer.

Have you heard of the Window of Tolerance?

This is the 'zone' you would be in where you can think clearly, cope well with life, respond rather than react to what's happening around you... and to put it simply, you would feel good!

Various situations can push you outside of that window.... be it too much stress, not enough sleep or not enough time to complete tasks.

This could then cause you to tip into either hyper-arousal which shows up as overwhelm, anxiety, wired or reactive, or hypo-arousal which would make you shut down, feel numb, flat or disconnected.

Hyper would be the 'fight or 'flight' response and hypo would be the 'freeze' response.

What is great to know though, is that with the right support and tools, the window of tolerance can expand.

It's not fixed.

And with an expanded window comes more resilience, calm, joy and confidence.

There are so many ways to soothe and settle the nervous system

✨ Safe touch through massage is wonderful

✨ As is Reiki

✨ Full belly breathing is amazing

✨ And being in nature for at least 20 minutes
works a treat

Another great way is being in safe and enjoyable company.

When you are in the company of warm and welcoming people, it's hard not to get that rush of feel good hormones. When you’re in good company oxytocin is produced. It's the hormone of connection and bonding and it makes you feel fantastic and calm.

My Make and Meditate gatherings are definitely a lovely example of this. Women coming together to chat, laugh, connect, share stories and support one another.

It's amazing how quickly the ladies act like they've known each other for years, not just 30 minutes!!

So I wanted to let you know that the…

Autumn Make and Meditate gatherings are on:

🍂 Saturday 19th September - including
lunch - £77

🍂 Sunday 20th September - without lunch,
but still with snacks and yummy
homemade cake - £47

I'm already looking forward to getting started with the prep.

This time we will be enjoying an autumn tea making ritual….I'm excited to start thinking about what delicious dishes I'm going to cook... and the session will end with a meditation and also some Reiki drum healing.

If you fancy joining me.... please comment below or DM me.

Please let me know what day you’d prefer to come and I’ll send over the booking link.

Spaces have already started to get snapped up!!

It would be so great if you can make it 🙂

Below are some notes from past attendees - it's better to hear it from them than me!!

You have probably heard of the ‘fight or flight’ responses, which are two common stress responses your body can default to.

But did you know that there are two more…. freeze and fawn.

This is how they would actually appear in everyday life....

✨ Fight - irritability, snapping at people, needing to control situations - your body trying to protect you by confronting the perceived threat head on.

✨ Flight - restlessness, overworking, can't sit still or relax - the body's instinct to run from danger.

✨ Freeze - procrastination, numbness, feeling "stuck" - your body's way of playing dead until the danger passes.

✨ Fawn - people-pleasing, over-apologising, struggling to say no - appeasing a perceived threat to keep the peace and stay safe.

Interestingly, none of these are character flaws - instead it's your nervous system doing its main job of keeping you safe.

We all have a stress response, that's called being human. It only becomes an issue when we get stuck in the same one, over and over again, even when there's no actual danger in front of us.

Which one do you resonate with the most?

I'd love to hear in the comments below.

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

The term nervous system regulation has become a bit of a buzz word recently, but when I did my massage training back in 2010 and we studied anatomy and physiology, I remember being really interested in the nervous system module.

I found it fascinating.... finding out the body was made of electrical currents without needing to be plugged in!

I was drawn towards this work subconsciously, without even realising it was connected to my own experiences.

All of the training courses I chose to do were linked more to healing massage rather than traditional massage and when I look back now, it was healing of the nervous system.

Throughout my whole life I had numerous ailments and characteristics which I thought of as separate things, but looking at the bigger picture they were all linked to having a dysregulated nervous system.

Things like chronic over worrying, people pleasing, problems getting to sleep, digestive issues, waking up wired, anxiety, panic attacks, getting easily frustrated and irritable, quick tempered, procrastination, feeling unmotivated, foggy headed and not being able to relax.

Some of these might be ailments, but they are not fixed characteristics and over the years I've received massage and other body work therapy, acupuncture, Reiki and other healing, breathwork, sound healing, gut health protocol, attended shamanic courses and taken part in shamanic ceremonies that have really helped to either lessen the effects of these or get rid of them completely. As a result, the quality of my life has improved immensely.

Having been through the same things as my clients means that I understand, not just empathise, which I think is important.

And this is exactly why I do the work I do now. My Talk Touch Heal treatment was created especially to support nervous system regulation and help ease some of the ailments and 'characteristics' that come with it.

I spoke the other week about what a dysregulated nervous system looks like, and what a regulated nervous system feels like, but what does 'nervous system regulation' actually mean?

✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨

So the autonomic nervous system has one main job - to keep you safe. When there is a perceived threat to your safety, the autonomic nervous system activates, to warn you about this 'danger'.

Back in the day, when we were cavemen, the danger would have been a wild animal, a real danger to our lives, and we would have either tried to attack the animal to scare it off, run away from it, or frozen in the hope the animal would turn and walk away.

These days, a perceived threat could be a tight deadline, being judged or getting stuck in traffic when you're running late, but the body doesn't know the difference and reacts in the same way.

A regulated nervous system is a bit like a thermostat and ideally it should be able to move between 'on alert' and 'at ease' as different situations arise, and then come back to a balanced state once the stress has passed.

A dysregulated nervous system would stay stuck.... you'd either feel wired and anxious and can't switch off or flat and exhausted and can't get going.

Neither state is bad on its own, but staying stuck in that state for too long can cause issues. And having constant small stresses everyday means that being in this stuck state is becoming increasingly common.

If you are feeling overwhelmed or stuck, please know it's not something you are doing wrong, it's the way your body is designed. This can be reassuring to know.

One simple tool you can try, is to breathe in for 4 counts and breathe out for 8. The longer outbreath is what calms down your body, slows down your heart rate and tells your nervous system it's safe and you're not in danger. Doing this just five times is sometimes all it takes to make a difference.
