Yesterday was a very proud moment for our Resident Ambassador, Margaret, who represented Valerian Court Care Home by laying a wreath at the 82nd D-Day Memorial at Harwell Stone.

Harwell played a vital role in the Allied invasion of Europe, serving as a key departure point for D-Day operations. On the night of 5th June 1944, the first RAF aircraft supporting the D-Day landings took off from the site. Today, the Harwell Campus Memorial Stone stands as a poignant reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who took part in these historic missions.

We are incredibly proud of Margaret for representing our home and helping to honour the courage, dedication, and legacy of the D-Day generation.

As we head into a weekend of wonderful activities, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all our residents, their families, and our amazing colleagues who worked together to brighten our outdoor spaces with beautiful new plants.

Spending time outdoors is so important for our residents, helping to promote wellbeing, relaxation, and happiness. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, our outdoor spaces are looking more colourful and inviting than ever, creating a lovely space for residents to enjoy throughout the summer. 🌼🌿💐

Something a little different yesterday. We were lucky enough to be donated copies of The Times and The Reading Mercury from 1958. The memories they sparked were fascinating and led to some wonderful conversations.

Bill was especially impressed by how much the style of newspapers has changed over the years. One thing that stood out was the colour of the paper itself. Does anyone else remember newspapers changing colour over the years? In Bill’s 101 years, he certainly does!

We would like to say a huge thank you to Sydney and his owners Mike and Marilyn for giving us so many smiles for over 3 years. Sydney has decided to hang up his famous bow ties from his official duties but promises he will back to see us very soon.

We were so happy to be back on the water with the Wallingford Accessible Boat Club. It brought back so many wonderful memories for our Colin, who could tell us exactly where we were along the river after living there for many years. Meanwhile, back at camp, we were enjoying the sunshine and a lovely refreshing mocktail. ☀️🚤🍹
