I’ve been working with mothers for the best part of 25 years and I feel as strongly about this now as I did way back when I first started - Post natal mental health is complex.
All caused by a combination of neurological and huge hormonal changes coupled with reduced sleep and untold pressures, there’s a lot going on.
Symptoms vary in frequency and intensity but the main take away is that you are not alone.

1 in 5 women will experience symptoms of postpartum anxiety and whilst the first year after childbirth is one of the most wonderful times it’s also the most demanding times in any woman’s life. Not to mention everything the body has experienced during pregnancy and birth.
If you’re a new mum (whether it’s your first, second or tenth baby) your emotional and mental wellbeing should be as important as taking care of your baby.

is an amazing local charity dedicated to supporting mothers and there are national organisations for post partum mental health resources like and
My job is to ensure that Mum and baby yoga classes are a safe, non judgmental space where you can find a listening ear, willing hands and solidarity.

Hold the mother not the baby always

I had a big wobble this week. It’s actually been a while since I crashed so spectacularly

I’m dealing with some big life events rights now and I knew it would be up there with the most stressful thing you can go through, I was prepared and ready for that. What I didn’t calculate is the LIFE stuff I would still have to navigate at the same time.
So this tale is mine & I think it’s important to highlight that yoga teachers are all human too
Life is hard and sometimes we fly a little too close to the sun but here’s what I was reminded of this week.
* If you’re struggling to relax or meditate, move your body until you can.
* Put something down - some of the ‘stuff’ can be left undone
* Breathe, find a pranayama technique that you can turn towards and use it daily.
* Remind yourself that you’re still a rockstar that’s having a bad day.
* Return to the fire, fuel it, nurture it and don’t let it burn out.

I’m never going to tell you that yoga will dissolve your problems but it will help you get through them.

Welcoming Yang season 🔥

Summer is a time where we truly see nature flourishing. We’re drawn toward the same expansive energy with the sun shining on us for a few more hours a day.
Theres’s a lightness in the air with longer days, lighter nights and the desire to meet with friends or enjoying nature.our yoga can reflect the season.

I always like to include concepts of the TCM elements as they pertain to the seasons in class and summer is all about FIRE.
One of the corresponding organs or meridian is the heart, which in traditional Chinese medicine is the centre of emotional and mental activity.
We can use this physical meridian to improve circulation and balance the attributes associated with the heart centre such as compassion, joy and personal confidence.
We’ll release tension in the shoulders, arm lines and nourish the shoulder joints ,so often impacted by female hormone fluctuations.
Join us in class as we focus to balance the fire and awaken the heart. ❤️‍🔥

May roundup…going out in a blaze of glory with record temperatures that we weren’t prepared for.
We said goodbye to baby yoga graduates, flying the nest to find more adventures.
Despite the heat, the squirrels in my garden were determined to secure nuts for Winter and we are being spoilt by TWO full moons in May. What a month!
Also cold lavender scented towels were given hero status.

Through it all women gathered together in the calm soothing spaces to nourish ourselves, connect with each other and remember that you can be anything but you can’t do everything unless you nourish sustainable growth.
I’ll see you all in June 💖🌼

Cold lavender towel for Savasana anyone??

We’ll be doing our best in class to bring some cooling yin balance to the fiery heat out there at the moment.
Yoga offers us many practical ways to stay cool with moon piercing breath and Chandra namaskar, we’ll be saluting the moon as she takes over from the sun.
Sending you on your way to have a sound and restful sleep.

Whilst some of us are celebrating the prospect of a sunny and warm bank holiday weekend, the sudden shift to 30degree heat wave can be a little much for others.
Pregnancy, post partum and perimenopause hormonal shifts can mean you may be finding the heat even more challenging at the moment.

Keeping cool with yoga and TCM is all about creating a harmony and balance. No extremes unlike the UK
weather so once your cool enjoy the warmth as it probably won’t last long!☀️

If you don’t know which balls I’m referring to, you’re missing out!

Come along to class if you could do with a sprinkling of myofascial release with your yoga asana.
I’ll work on my delivery 🥎

If you asked me exactly what yoga will do for you, this is what I’d tell you (and it’s probably not what you’d expect)

There’s a lot of noise and comparisons happening between yoga and pilates right now.
I can’t contribute to that conversation because I know very little about Pilates.
What I can tell you though is that Yoga will be worth it though 100% of the time because it’s SO much more than a movement practice.
