Imagine catching a wild animal...
And putting it in a cage.
Then labeling its attempts to break free as a "mental disorder."
That is exactly what's happening to millions of kids.
The concept of "hyperactivity disorders" was created more than half a century ago.
In 1968, a small committee of psychiatrists added ‘Hyperkinetic Reaction of Childhood’ to the DSM-II.
That diagnosis evolved into what we now call ADHD and has influenced the lives of millions of children worldwide.
For the parent who prefers biological reality to outdated theories here's how movement works...
Your body is made of roughly 30 trillion cells.
Each cell contains mitochondria which converts oxygen and nutrients to energy.
Regular movement improves mitochondrial number and function, making your cells more efficient at producing energy. More mitochondria = more movement = more mitochondria and so on.
The healthier you become the more movement you need.
Physical activity increases brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports learning, memory, and the growth of new neural connections.
Movement is not a barrier to effective learning.
It is the foundation for it.
It's time to teach the next generation about their physiology first.
