It's easy to feel pressure in the summer to "make the most" of every sunny day, to keep busy, make lots of plans, and fill every spare moment. I've come to recognise that slowing down is productive too.

Whether it's reading a book in the garden (my favourite thing!) enjoying a cup of coffee, or giving yourself permission to do less, rest is not something we have to earn.

If you've been feeling the pressure to always be doing, perhaps today is a small reminder that it's okay to just be. Sometimes that's exactly what we need.

Feeling the Heat? In More Ways Than One…🔥🔥🔥

Summer’s most definitely here, and the temperature might not be the only thing rising. Emotions can flare too. Irritability, short tempers, and simmering stress often come out to play when we're overheated (literally and emotionally).

In therapy, we talk a lot about regulation, the ability to cool down before you boil over.

So whether it’s a fan in your hand or a calming breath remember to:
regulate, hydrate, and don’t forget to relate.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is step into the shade (physically or emotionally) and take a pause.

If you’ve been diagnosed as autistic, you might be sitting with a mix of questions, relief or uncertainty (or all three).

This programme is a space for you to slow things down and begin making sense of what this means in your life. Together, we’ll gently explore how you experience the world, your relationships, and your emotions, at your own pace.

It’s not about changing who you are, but about understanding yourself more deeply, recognising your strengths, and finding ways of living and connecting that feel more comfortable, supportive, and true to you. Get in touch to find out more.

I’ve recently had surgery, and recovery has gently reminded me of something I often see in the therapy room.

How hard it can be to receive.

In families and relationships, we all take up positions. The capable one. The strong one. The organised one. The one who doesn’t need much.

These roles usually make sense. At some point, they were adaptive. They kept the system steady.

But over time, they can become fixed.

In therapy, we often notice what happens when someone who is used to holding everything together is invited to lean. To express need. To let someone else step forward.

It can feel exposing. Disorientating, even.

And yet, when one person shifts (even slightly)the whole relational pattern begins to move.

My own recovery has been a quiet reminder of this: that healing isn’t just about independence or resilience. Sometimes it’s about allowing ourselves to be part of the system in a different way.

And that can be surprisingly powerful.

Have you, or someone you care about received an ADHD diagnosis?

It’s common to feel a swirl of emotions: relief at finally having an explanation, confusion about what it means, grief for past challenges, or even anxiety about the future.

Whether you’re an adult coming to understand patterns that have shaped your life, or a young person navigating school, friendships, or family dynamics, receiving a diagnosis can leave you wondering… What now?

The ADHD: Beyond the Diagnosis programme offers a safe, supportive space to:

⭐ Explore how ADHD shows up in your thinking, emotions, and relationships.

⭐ Unpack patterns of self-criticism, shame, or past struggles in a compassionate way.

⭐ Develop practical strategies for focus, organisation, emotional regulation, and everyday life.

⭐ Recognise and harness your unique strengths to thrive, not just cope.

Whether you’ve just been diagnosed or have had your diagnosis for a long time, this programme helps you navigate your mind, relationships, and daily life with clarity, confidence, and compassion. Feel free to get in touch for further information.

At the arrival of the New Year, there’s often pressure to make resolutions, set goals, and rush toward change. But winter asks something different of us. In nature, this is a season of rest, conservation, and quiet preparation. Not visible growth.

Perhaps change doesn’t always begin with action, but with wintering: slowing down, turning inward, and listening to what needs tending first.

Spring is the season of movement and renewal; winter is where the groundwork is laid. If the start of the year feels heavy, unmotivated, or overwhelming, you’re not behind, you may simply be in winter. What might it be like to honour that instead?

Christmas doesn’t always have to be bright lights, full calendars, and constant togetherness.

Sometimes it’s a quiet coffee. An old favourite book you’ve already read a million times. A moment where nothing is required of you.

Christmas can carry a lot: memories, expectations, grief, joy, pressure to “make it special.” So if you need permission to slow down, here it is.

With that in mind, I’m settling down with a warm coffee and an old favourite. Letting the familiar do what it does best: soothe, ground, and remind me that this is enough.

Rest is not wasted time.
Slowing down is not giving up.
Turning inward can be an act of care.

May this Christmas offer you a small pocket of softness where your nervous system can settle, your shoulders can drop, and you can simply be.

Merry Christmas - Kirstie 🎄

As the Christmas season approaches… let’s check in with ourselves 🎄✨

This time of year can stir up a mix of emotions: excitement, pressure, nostalgia, longing, joy, grief, and everything in between. Before the rush carries you, pause and check in with yourself. Remember, it’s okay if this time of year feels mixed or messy. You’re not alone in that.

Take a breath. Check in. You’re doing the best you can.

🌲🌟 If Therapy Models were Christmas Decorations 🎄🌟

In integrative therapy, no single approach stands alone. The grounded presence of the therapist (the tree) and the different models we draw from (the decorations) all contribute to the wider picture. Each piece adds its own meaning, texture, and light, shaping a therapeutic space that’s flexible, relational, and responsive.

If you’re considering therapy for yourself, your relationship, or your family, you’re welcome to reach out.
