This week’s archive takes us back to a very proud milestone in our history… our 10th Anniversary! 🏡💙

This original newspaper feature celebrated ten years of Bennfield House and highlighted the fantastic support we received from local businesses and the wider community.

What really caught our eye is that D. Gravel & Sons featured in this advert—and they’re still trading today! 👏🍎

How wonderful is that? Two local businesses, both standing the test of time and continuing to serve our community decades later.

Today we’ve uncovered something incredibly special… the very first Bennfield House brochure. 🏡💙

This small brochure was one of the first introductions to Bennfield House after opening its doors, giving families an insight into what they could expect from our home.

Reading it today is remarkable.

It talks about providing:
💙 Individualised care
🌿 Privacy and independence
👩‍⚕️ 24-hour nursing care
🏡 A comfortable, homely environment
❤️ Dignity, compassion and respect

Over 40 years later, those values haven’t changed.

Whilst our home, facilities and the way we deliver care have evolved over the decades, our mission remains exactly the same—to provide exceptional care and make every resident feel safe, valued and at home.

It’s amazing to look back and see how the foundations of Bennfield House were built on principles that still guide us today.

Sometimes history reminds us not of how much has changed… but of the values that have stood the test of time.

📚✨ BENNFIELD’S ARCHIVES ✨📚

Every journey begins with a single decision… and for Bennfield House, that moment came on 1st July 1983.

Today we’re sharing one of the most significant documents in our history – the original letter confirming the proposed purchase of 65 King Edward Road, Thorne, for £46,000.

At the time, it was simply the purchase of a property.

Looking back over 42 years, we now know it was the beginning of something much bigger.

It marked the start of a vision that has gone on to touch thousands of lives, support generations of families, and provide a place where people have been cared for with dignity, compassion and kindness.

Sometimes it’s incredible to think that what began with a single letter has grown into the Bennfield House we know today.

From those early plans in 1983…

💚 To more than four decades of caring for our community.

We’re proud of where we’ve come from, and even more excited about where we’re going.

📚✨ BENNFIELD’S ARCHIVES ✨📚

Behind every success story are the moments nobody sees.

Today we’re sharing a letter dated 20th May 1983 from Barclays Bank. It wasn’t the news the Bennett family had hoped for.

The bank declined to support the vision.

For many people, that might have been the end of the dream.

For the Bennett family… it was just another obstacle to overcome.

Rather than giving up, they kept believing. They found another way. They stayed committed to their vision of creating a place where people would receive exceptional care, dignity and compassion.

Less than a year later, Bennfield House opened its doors.

Looking back over 42 years, this letter serves as a reminder that setbacks don’t define your future—your determination does.

Sometimes the best stories begin with someone saying “no.”

We’re incredibly proud to preserve these moments through Bennfield’s Archives, because they show that the Bennfield House we know today wasn’t built on luck—it was built on resilience, courage and an unwavering belief in doing the right thing.

💙 Every challenge has shaped who we are.
🏡 Every setback made us stronger.
✨ Every “no” brought us one step closer to “yes.”

💦 MAKING A SPLASH AT THORNE LEISURE CENTRE! 🏊‍♀️💙

Our lovely Mandy has been busy taking some of our residents swimming at the recently updated Thorne Leisure Centre and it’s been brilliant to see! 🥰

Swimming and being in the water can have so many health benefits but just as importantly, it’s about getting out into our local community, trying different activities and most of all having fun! 💦

At Bennfield House we really believe that age should never be a barrier to enjoying new experiences and keeping active in a way that works for each individual. 💙

A massive thank you to our Mandy for supporting our residents to make the most of these opportunities… we think the smiles say it all! 🥰🏊‍♀️💦

Some moments don’t just make history… they change it.

Long before community nursing had the support and transport we know today, a remarkable family member of Bennfield House became the very first District Nurse in Thorne to be provided with a car. 🚗💚

At a time when many District Nurses travelled on foot or by bicycle, receiving a motor vehicle was revolutionary. It meant patients could be reached more quickly, more people could receive care, and nursing could extend further into the community than ever before.

This wonderful photograph captures far more than a car it represents progress, dedication and a commitment to putting patients first. It reminds us that innovation in healthcare isn’t just about technology; it’s about finding better ways to care for people.

As we celebrate 42 years of Bennfield House, we’re incredibly proud of the generations before us who helped shape healthcare in Thorne. Their passion, resilience and pioneering spirit continue to inspire everything we do today.

Every great story has a beginning… and this is ours. 🏡💚

Today we’re proud to share a truly special piece of Bennfield House history – our very first Registration Certificate, officially issued on 5th March 1984 by the Doncaster Health Authority.

This certificate marked the beginning of a journey that has now spanned 42 years of providing care, compassion and support to thousands of people and their families.

What started as a registered nursing home has grown into so much more, but one thing has never changed… our commitment to putting people first.

Looking back at documents like this reminds us just how far we’ve come, whilst keeping sight of the values that have guided Bennfield House from day one.

Here’s to everyone who has been part of our journey over the last four decades – residents, families, staff, healthcare professionals and our local community. Thank you for helping shape the Bennfield House we know today. 💚

Today we celebrate all the wonderful dads, grandads, stepdads, father figures and those special men who have made a difference in our lives.

To all of our residents, relatives, friends, colleagues and the amazing dads within our Bennfield House family, thank you for your love, strength, guidance and support. Your kindness, wisdom and dedication never go unnoticed.

We hope you have a fantastic day filled with love, laughter and special memories with those who matter most.
