Why does your recent sun exposure matter before having laser treatment?

When your skin is exposed to UV radiation, it increases the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for tanning.

Many laser treatments work by targeting specific pigments within the skin. When there’s increased melanin from recent sun exposure, more laser energy can be absorbed by the surrounding skin rather than the intended target.

This increases the risk of burns, pigmentation changes and other unwanted reactions, particularly when your skin is recently tanned or sun damaged.

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference.

We see so many patients who have spent years feeling self-conscious about their nose, particularly when looking at their side profile. So, seeing their reactions when they look in the mirror after treatment is genuinely one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

CO2 laser aftercare is NOT optional.

Following the correct aftercare is just as important as the treatment itself, and we cannot stress this enough to our patients.

CO2 laser resurfacing creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate collagen production and encourage skin renewal. However, this temporarily compromises your skin’s protective barrier, making it more vulnerable to infection, irritation and damage.

That’s why we’re so strict with our aftercare advice.

Avoiding sun exposure, keeping the treated area clean, using only approved skincare and allowing your skin to heal naturally are all essential parts of recovery.

Picking, peeling or introducing active skincare too early can interfere with healing, increase the risk of scarring and compromise your results.

We want you to achieve the best possible results, but we also want your skin to heal safely.

Every patient receives detailed aftercare instructions, and following them properly is essential to getting the most from your treatment.
