Creative workshop with Right Up Our Street artists

Earlier this month the students and our colleagues at Mercury College thoroughly enjoyed a creative workshop with Right Up Our Street artists. They designed their own racing sashes to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the St Leger.

Their creations will be transformed into real silk racing sashes to be displayed together at Into the Park 26. https://www.ticketsource.com/right-up-our-street/e-glkppm

A clearer way to be heard

*Barry is a fantastic communicator who uses personalised Makaton signs alongside his own vocalisations. However, some of his signs could sometimes be difficult for unfamiliar people to understand, which could lead to frustration. Our clinical team therefore explored whether an AAC communication device might offer another way for him to express himself more clearly.

Following assessment and a successful trial, it quickly became clear that the device was a good fit. Barry showed a strong understanding of the symbols and pictures and used the device enthusiastically to communicate about the things that matter to him.

Now personalised around his interests and embedded into his daily routines, the device is already making a real difference. Barry has been able to communicate where he would like to go out to eat, talk about his favourite music and the people around him, and even express when something is upsetting him, all without being misunderstood.

This is more than introducing a piece of technology. It is about reducing frustration, increasing choice and ensuring the people we support have the right tools to express themselves in the way that works best for them.

It was a pleasure to be a sponsor and attend Celebrate The Spectrum's Family Fun Day at Armthorpe Community Centre in Doncaster on Saturday. Emma Piper, our Head of Talent Acquisition even got to meet Elsa!

Events like these are a fantastic reminder of the importance of creating inclusive communities where everyone feels supported, valued, and able to thrive. It was inspiring to see so many families, volunteers, and local organisations coming together to celebrate diversity and raise awareness for sensory journeys and neurodiversity.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a meaningful event.

Amazing Adventure at York Maize Maze! 🚜✨

One of the people we support from Village Green Area Two recently enjoyed a fantastic day out at York Maze packed with fun, laughter and new experiences.

After successfully conquering the famous maze and trying their hand at corngolf, they explored some of the exciting attractions on site. The highlight of the day was the tractor ride, which delivered plenty of surprises, splashes and laughter along the way!

Smiling throughout, they embraced every activity and made some wonderful memories outdoors. It was a day full of adventure, achievement and enjoyment from start to finish. 🌟🚜🌽
