This is my mum Sue, yesterday was her birthday she was 74 years young. We had a lovely day. I visited a client in the morning then went to mums. Marcus, Piers, Lydia and Paige met me there. We spent a couple of hours chatting and playing games, then we went to Nandos. Such a lovely time mum loves it when we all visit.
This is a very rare photo of her as she hates her photo taking. It's been a crap 6 years since we lost my sister and dad and although we still miss them I think we're coming out the other side and starting to live life again. They wouldn't want us to be miserable. ❤️

I had my children a long time ago and I've learned a lot since then. My views on birth have radically changed mainly in the last 5 years. With Marcus I did what I was told I was a student midwife training at Barnsley but home was Doncaster. Till 34 weeks I had my community care at Barnsley and hospital care at Doncaster transferring fully to Doncaster when I went on maternity leave. I never saw the same midwife twice. I missed my 20/40 scan my consultant didn't do them. I had a scan at 36/40 as he was breech but he was now head down. I went into labour at 40 weeks and 6 days. Latent stage was long and tiring but from admission to hospital was quick (3 hours). I was exhausted and told to lie on the bed and rest this made the pain so much harder and I accepted diamorphine. Big mistake cue vomiting 🤮 for hours and I was literally asleep and couldn't push. I was on my back no urge to push and a back to back baby who turned out to be big (9lb7). I also had an episiotomy which extended to a 3rd degree tear. Postnatally several different midwives, conflicting advice and confusion. They forgot to weigh him till 14 days old thank god feeding was going well.
How would it have been different with an IM. I would have had the same midwife at every appointment so conflicting advice wouldn't have been an issue. Laying down would have been discouraged. Statistically it has been shown that women who have an IM use less pain relief and are less likely to have an episiotomy, instrumental delivery and Caesarian. My birth may have been completely different (I actually thought it was a good birth). Cont in the comments.

Today is the birthday of my gorgeous twins Piers and Lydia, they are 22. When I found out I was having twins I was excited but worried, being a midwife I was well aware of the complications. Miles was worried for more practical reasons, I needed a new car, buying 2 of everything.
From the minute I got the line on the test I loved you both with all my heart and I am so proud of you both. You each have an amazing sense of humour (less of the dad jokes though Piers). All I wish is for you to be happy in life and visit me occasionally. Piers can smash this one he's still at home. I love you have a wonderful day my perfect little twinnies. 💛🩷
I will do a post about their birth later.

Had a great time in London. Fantastic hotel , lovely place to stay for my birthday.
Also had the best day at with so inspiring, Now ready to go home and smash my business. Met some lovely people all working hard on their businesses, some just starting out and. Some well established. Out was great to be in a room with like-minded business women. it was lovely to finally put a face to the name.
I have 2 coaches who are both incredible have me a good kick up the bum the other day.

On my way to London to see Hibbert She manifests millions live. It's also my birthday, not sure how I feel about being 55 but as my FIL said it's better than the alternative. Staying overnight in the capital.
I'm also trying to make myself like Matcha this is better with coconut and strawberry but still not amazing. Apparently good for me though. Have a wonderful day. I'll check in later.

Today I started online university. I'm doing the NIPE course, newborn and infant physical examination. This will mean I no longer have to send my clients and their newborns to hospital for this test I can do it myself. I will need to be supervised initially (obviously if you are happy with this) but it will be so much better for my clients to stay at home.
In other news my girls are in Crete and having a ball. Marcus took them to the airport. I'm winding down for our holiday in July but still accepting clients as long as it doesn't clash with my holiday. Of course I never fully take a break, I'm there to answer queries and give advice and social media will always carry on. Contact me if you have any questions about how I work as an IM.

It's been one year since my first birth as an independent midwife. I took a massive leap of faith and left the NHS on the 8th April and got a client straight away (and featured on Teen moms the next generation). Since then I've had the most beautiful clients, some of the best births and really grown in self confidence and as a midwife. I've relocated to other parts of the country twice, joined a gym owned by an influencer, been on a couple of podcasts and thoroughly enjoyed this new way of working. 18 months ago I dreaded going to work and couldn't wait to retire now hopefully (god willing) I have many more years as an independent midwife.
There have been a couple of down points but that's life and I prefer to concentrate on the positives. Here's to many more wonderful clients and colleagues. I'm looking forward to seeing what this next year brings. Comment DISCOVERY if you want to find out how to work with me.

Congratulations to I know the plan changed but you absolutely smashed it. Proud of you and in awe of how you look after so many children so well. Gorgeous flowers from a client. Thank you so much I love these so much. It makes my day when clients are happy with their care, there is no better reward. Your family is beautiful and always make me feel welcome even when they ask me when I'm leaving. 😂
