Last month was Skin Cancer Awareness month! We would like to highlight the importance of sun safety.

☀️ Sun Safety Starts with the Basics! ☀️

As the weather gets warmer and we spend more time outdoors, it’s important to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

🧢 Wear a sunhat – A wide-brimmed hat helps protect your face, ears, and neck from sun exposure.

🧴 Apply sunscreen – Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and reapply every 2 hours.

🌳 Seek shade when the sun is strongest (11am–3pm).

👕 Cover up with lightweight clothing and sunglasses for extra protection.

Sunburn can happen quickly and increases the risk of skin damage and skin cancer later in life. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep you and your family safe while enjoying the sunshine.

☀️ Stay sun safe, stay healthy.

💙💛💜 Bladder Cancer Awareness 💜💛💙

The team has been wearing shades of blue, yellow and purple to help raise awareness of bladder cancer and show support for those affected by the disease.

Early diagnosis can make a significant difference, which is why awareness of the signs and symptoms is so important. Symptoms can include blood in the urine, changes in bladder habits, or pain when passing urine. If you notice any of these symptoms, please seek medical advice.

Together, we can help raise awareness and support those living with bladder cancer.

🩺 Worried about a mole or skin change? Our Dermatology Team is hosting a free drop-in mole check clinic as part of Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

📍 Macmillan Hub, Outpatients Department, Doncaster Royal Infirmary
📅 Thursday 14 May
⏰ 9.00am to 12.30pm

No appointment is needed – just come along and speak to the specialist team if you have noticed a mole or area of skin that doesn’t look quite right.

Most moles are harmless, but changes in size, shape or colour can sometimes be an early sign of skin cancer. Getting things checked early can make a real difference.

If anything needs further investigation, advice will be provided on next steps through your GP.

Find out more about moles and skin cancer signs on the NHS website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/moles/

🚍 Visitors can also use the Park and Ride service between Doncaster Racecourse and Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month so there’s no better time to dig out the bowel cancer testing kit that you hid in that bottom drawer!! Or look out for it in the post.

And then put it by the loo, don’t put it off!

If you’re 50 to 74, you should have received your NHS bowel cancer screening (FIT) kit through the post. That’s because the NHS automatically sends a kit every two years to everyone in that age range.
Out of every 5,000 people who use their test kit, nine turn out to have cancer. But if it’s spotted earlier, the chances of recovering from bowel cancer are higher.
The test can be done in the comfort of your home and only needs a small sample of poo to test for signs of cancer.
