Weldmar Hospicecare is an independent Dorset charity that provides free end of life care for adults with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. Our compassionate approach supports patients and their families in the community, at home, and in our hospice. We have a dedicated team of nurses, doctors, therapists, social workers and counsellors, but only 21% of our funds are provid

ed by the NHS – the rest is raised for our Dorset charity thanks to the support of the local community. Our aim is to ensure all patients needing end of life care in Dorset have access to excellent services, delivered when they are needed, meeting individual needs of patients and their loved ones.

A Cuddle Bed changes everything. Extending in width, it allows loved ones, children, and even pets to be close when time is short and it matters the most.

Thanks to your wonderful generosity so far, we've gone beyond our original target of £30,000 - enough for two new Cuddle Beds for our hospice - and we've now set our sights on three.

Jemma told us: "From the beginning of my dad's cancer journey, my mum made him a promise that she would stay close, hold his hand, and be there as she always had been throughout their life together. The Cuddle Bed allowed her to keep that promise, and fulfilled my dad's dying wish not to be alone, and to be held by the one he loved the most."

Dave Cresswell is taking on a John O' Groats to Lands End cycle challenge for Weldmar Hospicecare and and the Haemophillia Society! He is setting off today to make the drive to the start point, starting his cycling on Friday 19th June from John O' Groats, and aiming to reach Lands End on 4th July.

As much as Weldmar is there for those who have a life limiting illness, we're also there for their loved ones. For people like Joy.

Joy's husband Gary received care and support from our Specialist Hospice at Home team. But Joy was his full time carer, and she has been supported by Chloe, our Carers' Support Coordinator - both during Gary's illness and afterwards.

Joy says: “Chloe told me that she wanted to meet the real Joy. Thinking I didn’t need help was a coping mechanism. But she got me straight away. She had amazing words of encouragement. She told me it would be hard, but that I would get through it, and that she would always be there if I needed her.

“I thank God that Chloe came into my life. She’s such a warm person, comforting and reassuring, and nothing was ever too much trouble. She’s got an answer for everything – in a nice way!”

Paula is a Staff Nurse at our hospice in Dorchester, where we're currently asking you to help fund two new cuddle beds, so loved ones can be close when it matters most.

Paula says, "Every day, thanks to generous supporters like you, I’m able to spend precious time caring for patients in their final weeks. At home, closeness is natural. Sitting together on the sofa. Holding hands. Sharing a bed. Often with a much-loved pet close by. Our hospice is designed to feel like a home from home – but even with the very best care, a standard hospital bed can become an unintended physical barrier when closeness matters most.

"When time feels so painfully short and emotions are overwhelming, all you want is to be close. To feel the comfort of the person who has been by your side throughout your life."

Right now we can only offer a Cuddle Bed to one in twelve patients at our hospice. Please donate to our Cuddle Bed Appeal today. Thank you.

Thank you to everyone who attended the recent Menopause Disco at Weymouth Rugby Club, organised by Paws & Relax Dog Grooming - which raised more than £750 for hospice care in Dorset!

Lisa from Paws & Relax came along to our hospice to hand over the proceeds to volunteers Pat and Nicola - and appropriately, Crumble the PAT dog!
