I’m incredibly proud to share that I have been shortlisted for two Elevate You Awards 2026: Inspirational Woman of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year.
And I have to admit, seeing my name in both categories made me stop and reflect.

I will always be a doctor first.

Everything we have built at Mannin Doctors starts with the patient. Giving people time. Listening properly. Showing care and empathy. Looking at the whole person and creating the kind of general practice I genuinely believe patients deserve.

But somewhere along the way, I also had to become a businesswoman.

Building a successful private GP practice from the ground up has meant learning about leadership, people, finance, growth, technology, AI, innovation and the business of healthcare, while never losing sight of why I started in the first place.

That transition from local GP to founder and entrepreneur has certainly not always been easy. It has been a journey of learning, adapting, taking risks and occasionally working things out as I went along!

I’ve learned an enormous amount and I now realise just how much wisdom and experience I have to share with other women and business owners...but that's a post for a different day 😉

Perhaps that is why being shortlisted for both of these awards feels particularly special.
One represents the values I hope I bring to the people around me.
The other represents the business I had the courage to build.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me and Mannin Doctors along the way. I’m very proud of how far we have come and very excited about where we are going next.

35 years in medicine ❤️

Today marks 35 years since Dr Karen Wilson first stepped onto a ward as a doctor and what a career those 35 years have held.

Karen’s experience has taken her through many different areas of medicine, including years supporting people affected by cancer and end-of-life care, with work involving Macmillan and Hospice, before all of that knowledge and experience ultimately fed into her work in General Practice.

Throughout her career, she has also remained incredibly forward-thinking. She has embraced developments in medicine, genetics, diagnostics and technology, always interested in how new thinking and innovation can help us understand our health better and improve the care patients receive.

Yet for all the advances she has witnessed during those 35 years, one thing has remained constant — her belief in being there for people at every stage of life.

That philosophy is a huge part of what Mannin Doctors is today: giving patients time, listening, looking at the bigger picture and continually exploring how medicine can do better for them.

35 years of learning, caring, supporting and still wanting to know what medicine can do next.

We think that is something very special to celebrate.
