βœ¨πŸŒ› Yoga off the mat

Couldn't resist filming me cleaning the skirting boards behind the bed when I realised I was having to do a half moon pose to fit and reach!

The physical asana we practice, especially with the mobility, strength or Pilates inspired transitions and preparatory movements YWP includes, can build strength and flexibility to fit all sorts of movements off the mat. And don't even get me started on the mental and emotional aspects and how they help you connect better with yourselves and others.

πŸŒ›βœ¨ Inspiration

I find the best way to harness my own creativity is to be inspired by others. In practicing with my own teachers (shout-out to for this little sequence in practice), I sit in the seat of the student and am able to reflect on the journey I would like to take them on or the story I would like it to tell.

That bit of time for myself and self exploration helps to boost my creativity which is super helpful for then planning classes too! A teacher is a culmination of their own experiences and how they've made sense of them/figured out how they can work together to create something new. As always grateful to anyone who has ever taught me at any point and what they've gifted me and my own teaching.

βœ¨πŸŒ› Yoga is more than poses, it's people

A couple of snaps from post yoga asana practiced this past week. The Aquarius Full Moon got me thinking about the idea of practicing as a collective and coming together as a community and how this is really just as important as the physical asana themselves. As humans we thrive on connection, and as much as some could say the whole 'yoga & . . .' is a bit naff if a bit of marketing/business building it's the yoga that offers the opportunity, the excuse to make time for the campfire and coffee conversations.

βœ¨πŸŒ› When the sun sets it paves the way for a sunrise

So many beautiful sunsets over the past month, some UK and some the Croatian edition from hols.

Sunsets symbolise the end of something and it struck me that the end, most often thought of as scary as leading to something new/unknown/the loss of what came before, can be so beautiful.

It can make you appreciate that endings, although potentially mixed with sadness from what has passed, should really be a celebration of colours and reflections on what a day it has been. A reminder too that everything must come to an end but even if there is a period of darkness you then get to experience a new beginning/sunrise which may be even more beautiful.

I'm sure there is a line from Semisonic song (classic 90s music)that sums it all up - every new beginning, comes from some other beginning's end.

βœ¨πŸŒ› Consent cards

These beauts arrived today! (Samantha Little thank you for the pic and Teresa Salmon for being the design sound board)

These will be present at the top of your mats in classes, set to 'no' automatically. If you decide you would like adjusts/assists in a class you can turn them over, but I'll always check them before any assist as consent is ongoing and can change throughout the class or from lesson to lesson. There is never any pressure to be touched, just an additional tool alongside verbal cues.

Also note, some classes won't lend themselves to assists as well as others so even if you pop your card to yes it doesn't necessarily mean it will happen 🫢🏻.

Hopefully a useful way to connect rather than correct ❀️.

βœ¨πŸŒ› Connection not correction-

When your lovely friend is in need of a little TLC and is also happy for you to practice new learnings on her 🫢🏻.

A big takeaway when thinking about adjustments is that they aren't about correcting someone's posture or pose, as there are many different lineages and bodies, meaning there is no one right shape or way for everyone. Instead it's about meeting the person where they are, considering the intention of the pose and adjustment and seeing how you can enhance the students' experience.

This outlook looks at each person as a unique individual, the essence of a more functional and realistic approach when working with a wide range of people. Moreover, it helps the teacher be present with their students and the students to be present in their practice.

βœ¨πŸŒ› Nature doesn't move in straight lines, so why should we?

Nature doesn't move in straight lines.

Rivers curve. Trees and their roots grow in unexpected directions. Vines twist. Seasons change. Much of nature moves in a cyclical pattern.

So why do we expect our yoga practiceβ€”or our livesβ€”to?

Some days you feel strong. Other days, you slow down. Some poses come easily, while others ask for patience. Every breath, every wobble, every pause is part of the journey.

Yoga isn't about perfect lines. It's about finding balance, presence, and allowing yourself to explore outside of the normal forward and back/back and forth.

Honour your unique path. Embrace the curves. Keep flowing. 🌿✨
