Many of our walkers are suffering from hayfever this year, even those not normally impacted:

There are high levels of pollen across some parts of the country today.

If you suffer from hay fever, visit the NHS website for things you can do to ease your symptoms.

We had an incredible turn out of 27 ladies and 4 dogs for our first ever Maggie's Meet Up on tour to Elvaston Castle Country Park this morning. Our biggest problem today was trying to fit everyone into the frame when taking the photos!

Many thanks to Aija and Maggie for organising today's trip. There were smiles all around as we explored the grounds and stopped for a picnic. We then played a selection of games, watched by the geese and ducks. This included several egg & spoon races, skipping & rounders. Our walkers are suprisingly competitive! We laughed when the dogs tried to join the rounders game. We bumped into several colleagues, some of the Elvaston Castle grounds team even joined in the games before showing us how to dowse for water.

We had lots of good conversations and put the world to rights. It was a fantastic trip and lovely to see how well this community is growing. Today was so successful, with such wonderful feedback that we are already planning our next trip!

Huge thanks to Maggie and Helen from Maggie’s Meet Up - Kirk Hallam
for bringing these lovely ladies together. You've built a supportive community and a hugely successful walking group. Thanks also to the Community Transport team for driving us safely to & fro.

Future walking dates will be annouced soon. Please follow our page & see our events section for more information.

Many thanks to one of our regular walkers, Gordon, who has completed another litter pick in the woods near Ilkeston Hospital. I'm so proud of all the litter picks that our Walkers and Walk Leaders are doing locally to improve our environment. It helps keep our community clean and tidy, plus the local wildlife benefits from our efforts.

We had 3 walks yesterday, the first of which was the Women's Walk. The weather forecast was for rain but we decided to walk anyway around the Erewash canal, Bennerley Viaduct: The Iron Giant and Nottingham canal loop that Kira had mapped out for us. It remained dry except for a few spots of rain along the canal where the trees protected us. It was warmer than expected and we enjoyed seeing a family of Swans with 6 cygnets. We observed the grey clouds over the Viaduct and valley below.

We were delighted to spot a Bee Orchid and stopped to admire it. A friendly squirrel walked along the fence next to us for about 100 yards, much to our amusement. We had some good conversations about mental health, carers week and the Future Cotmanhay project.

Here are some photo's of a few of our walkers. Thanks to Ange for her additional images.

Our next Women’s Walk will be on 6th July at 9.30am. We meet at Cotmanhay Children’s Centre.
