*Right To Choose*
Families ask me about NHS, Right to Choose and private assessments for ADHD or Autism all the time. The quality of assessments can differ significantly depending on provider, with some families sadly going through an assessment process only to find that their GP, school and NHS can’t accept the report.

For people thinking about taking the “Right to Choose” pathway in Worcestershire there is some really useful information from Healthwatch Worcestershire here, including a list of the approved providers. Always check with your GP for the most up-to-date version of this list.

I know it’s a really important outcome, and absolutely what this young person needs. I also really struggle to celebrate. For the young people and families I work with, reaching this point often means they have been on a long and stressful, and sometimes very expensive, journey. A good outcome yes, but what a terrible process just to get a young person the things they need to be able to continue with their education.

Looking forward to another fabulous group of volunteers to come along to my training session! This time the topic is self harm. It’s not always an easy subject to talk about, but it matters deeply, and touches many lives. I’m really looking forward to exploring how we can support families (and ourselves) with empathy, confidence and kindness.

These sessions are really informal and flexible, and give us a chance to think together about the support we offer to families Home-Start Wyre Forest 🌳
