Rachel McDowell Massage Therapy

Rachel McDowell Massage Therapy My aim is to provide each client with a tailor-made massage treatment to suit their specific needs. Who can benefit from massage therapy?

The term 'remedial', when applied to massage therapy means to restore or cure, correct and improve. Whether you are an elite athlete, a recreational fitness enthusiast or an office worker, massage therapy will help relieve pain, muscular tension and fatigue. Improved circulation, relaxation and quality of sleep are just a few of the many benefits of both holistic and remedial massage; both of which I am able to offer.

I’m sitting here trying to find the words to articulate exactly what me and my husband Lee, endured together at the weekend. Perhaps the word ‘endured’ is the wrong word to use, although at times it would seem that was exactly the right word!

Completing the We Run Wild’s flagship 108 mile point to point ultra marathon was in the forefront of our mind since last year. We were hungry for it. Nothing was going to stop us this time, and we put the hard work in for MONTHS.

Nobody sees the early mornings, the miles upon miles of training runs, the weight training, the emotions we went through….people just see the end result so believe me when I say that just getting to the start line was the hardest bit. But hey, if you want something badly enough you’ll put the work in.

The race takes you from Ballintoy in the North Antrim Coast, all the way over the Sperrin mountains to Gortin in Omagh and it tests EVERY ounce of mental and physical strength you possess. It’s a beast fully intent on stopping you in your tracks but we weren’t going to quit so we fought it EVERY step of the way.

Just under 35 hours and 108 miles later we finally joined that elusive 100 mile club, totally and utterly exhausted from head to toe but elated to have finally completed what we set out to do.

As a wise man once told me, “Challenge your fears and conquer your limitations”. This was the phrase I repeated when the going got tough during those last 19 miles, and it’s a phrase I’ll continue to use for a long time to come⭐️.

This weekend was a heady mix of 24 miles of trail running, swiftly followed by the setting up and manning of an aid station to assist the We Run Wild Dublin to Belfast ultra runners who took on the 108 mile course at noon on Saturday.

Me and my husband pulled an all-nighter for the event (great training for the forthcoming 106 mile ultra in 3 weeks) and it was a privilege to be on hand and assist the weary runners as they ran through our village, en route to Belfast.

A massive shout out to all the runners who toed the line in Dublin! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Many congratulations to my client for completing the Belfast Marathon on Sunday! 🎉👏🏻

She came in for a post race flush of the legs and showed off her hard earned medal with pride.

Here’s to the next challenge! 💪🏻👍

I thought I’d take this opportunity to give all my new followers a little introduction and say hello again to my existing followers! 👋

I qualified as a holistic therapist back in 2014 and went on to complete my sports/remedial massage in 2015. After moving out here from the Cotswolds I set my little business up and haven’t looked back!

My hubby and I spend a lot of our spare time either running or hiking the trails and, in particular, the stunning Mourne Mountains. Our three dogs are also a massive part of our lives and you’ll often see them waiting patiently at the front window to greet my clients! 🐕🐕🐕

⭐️I don’t follow a set routine, my treatments are tailored to each client’s specific issue/needs and I don’t stop talking! For me, communication is key!

⭐️I don’t cause as much pain as humanely possible either 👍. Sports massage can get a bad reputation for feeling incredibly sore and yes, while certain aspects of it can sometimes cause a little discomfort, once you get into the routine of having them done regularly, they’ll never feel as sore!

The very best of luck to everyone running the London Marathon tomorrow!! 🥳👏🏻

This iconic race holds a very special place in my heart as it was the very first marathon I trained for, and what a day it was! The atmosphere was phenomenal and I remember smiling from ear to ear the whole way round. All those months of training in the winter weather paid off and I ended up hungry for more.

Fast forward 18 years and trail ultra marathons are my thing. Tonight I’ll be heading out with my husband and a big band of fellow ultra runners to take on our last recce run for the NI100. Starting at 8pm in Articlave we will traverse 32 miles of forests, bogs and undulating terrain, aiming for Dungiven at around 5am tomorrow 😉.

If you’d have told me 18 years ago this is what I’d end up doing I’d have laughed in your face!! All it takes is that first step and who knows where your running journey will take you?! 🏃🏃🏻‍♀️
