Based in the heart of the Black Country, The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust is the main provider of hospital and adult community services to the populations of Dudley, significant parts of the Sandwell borough and smaller, but growing, communities in South Staffordshire and Wyre Forest. The first hospital trust in the area to be awarded coveted Foundation Trust status in 2008, we provide a wide

range of medical, surgical and rehabilitation services. Currently the Trust serves a population of around 450,000 people from three hospital sites at Russells Hall Hospital, Guest Outpatient Centre in Dudley and Corbett Outpatient Centre in Stourbridge. The Trust provides the full range of secondary care services and some specialist services for the wider populations of the Black Country and West Midlands region. The Trust also provides specialist adult community based care in patients’ homes and in more than 40 centres in the Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council community. Our hospitals are among some of the most technologically advanced in the country, where state-of-the-art equipment and modern, purpose-built buildings combine to create the highest standards of patient care. A little bit of Disney magic came to our Children's Ward this week! ✨🧜‍♀️🌺

Our young patients and their families received a very special visit from Moana and Ariel, who brought plenty of smiles, excitement and a little extra magic to the day. 💕

The fun continued with face painting and a summer-themed lucky dip, giving our young patients plenty to enjoy! 🎨🎁☀️

Joey is a Clinical Support Worker on our respiratory ward, and the chair for the Trusts LGBTQ+ Staff Network.

His favourite thing about chairing is being able to take part in decisions that help create a more inclusive place to work.

Joeys’ role is important as it creates a positive work environment for staff. They offer LGBTQ+ awareness training to departments who request it, fostering a better understanding of issues faced by LGBTQ+ patients and how to improve their experiences. 💙

Getting ready for surgery starts before your operation 💙

We’ve launched our new Early Health Screening Service, supporting patients while they wait for their planned surgery.

The service gives patients the opportunity to have some simple health checks, talk about their health and wellbeing, and get personalised advice and support ahead of their operation.

By checking in early, we can identify any potential health issues sooner and give patients time to manage them, helping them feel as prepared and as well as possible when their surgery approaches.

Waiting for surgery can also be a chance to make positive changes. Our team is here to support you every step of the way 🫶

A huge congratulations to Dudley Group pharmacists Sarah Baig and Nazir Hussain, who have both been shortlisted for national B.A.M.E Health and Care Awards.

Sarah is up for the Public Health Impact Award, while Nazir has been shortlisted for Clinician of the Year.

Their work is helping to prevent ill health, tackle inequalities and bring specialist care closer to patients.

We’re incredibly proud of them both and wish them the very best for the awards on 17 September.

Waiting for surgery does not have to mean waiting to improve your health.

A new Early Health Screening Service at The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust is helping patients use the time before planned surgery to improve their health and prepare for their operation.

By carrying out health checks earlier in the patient journey, our teams can identify issues such as high blood pressure or irregular heart rhythms sooner, while also offering advice and support around lifestyle and wellbeing.

It means patients have more time to make positive changes, address potential concerns and arrive for surgery feeling better prepared - while reducing the risk of unexpected issues being discovered close to their operation date.
